Rounder Records to release Delta Spirit’s ‘Ode to Sunshine’ on August 26, 2008

Foot stomp rumbles, trash can thunder and fierce vocals—just a few ingredients of the compelling sound of Southern California-based band Delta Spirit. Freshly signed to renowned label Rounder Records, Delta Spirit have left their mark across the US, opening sold-out shows for Cold War Kids, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and more, honing their captivating style with every performance. This shines through on their debut “Ode to Sunshine,” which hits shelves across the nation on August 26, 2008.

Hailing from San Diego, California, drummer Brandon Young, bassist Jon Jameson and guitarist Sean Walker were accomplished musicians in need of a vocalist, whom they found in the impassioned, aspiring performer Matt Vasquez in 2004. With the addition of friend and multi-instrumentalist Kelly Winrich, Delta Spirit was complete and perfecting their signature blend of fervent indie-rock and soul-stirring croons, reminiscent of compatriots The Walkmen and Spoon, that soon earned them praise both live and on their first EP release, “I Think I’ve Found It.”

Delta Spirit’s energy and glory radiate on their debut album, “Ode to Sunshine.” “Trashcan” is a romp of boisterous piano melody and Vasquez’s soaring vocals, while “Strange Vine” showcases the band’s knack for poignant, introspective lyrics, accented by nostalgic guitar twang and light key board twinkles. Burning blues harmonica opens the dynamic track “Children” joined by anxious guitar shimmer and gripping harmony. Title track “Ode to Sunshine” finishes the album with a laid-back waltz, polished with an organ backbone and stately horns.
