Over the course of the last few decades, it has seemed like the spoken word composition has faded out of popularity just a tinge. GaREE All has created a new spoken word effort that builds off of the worplay of artists like Gil Scott-Heron and Rudy Ray Moore. There’s a supportive, strong message that is promoted through the track’s run time, while matching imagery does a lot to provide further depth to the composition. Mother Tough highlights the tremendous amount of work that the titular role enters in to on a regular basis. The light instrumentation that plays at the bottom of the track gives listeners something else in which to sink their teeth.
Kudos to GaREE All for crafting this track. As a political science professor myself, it’s always great to see others in the discipline break free of the hustle and grind of “publish or perish”.
