Oliver Future Ushers in “Pax Futura” With Headlining Release Show, tours, has #1 alternative digital album for emusic.com
LOS ANGELES, July 13, 2007 – KCRW darlings Oliver Future will
celebrate the July 24 release of their sophomore album PAX FUTURA with
a headlining show at Los Angeles’ famed Troubadour, Tuesday, July 31,
before hopping in the van for the rest of the summer. Armed with its
explosive new material, the LA-by-way-of-Austin band will travel cross
country, making a few special stops: a live session on L.A.’s KCRW’s
Morning Becomes Eclectic, Aug. 20 and a return to their Texas stomping
grounds for Fort Worth’s Wall of Sound Festival Sept. 22. Here, they
will share the stage with the likes of Explosions in the Sky,
Ghostland Observatory and Pinback.
PAX FUTURA was pre-released digitally in June and has been making
waves on sites like eMusic.com ever since. The album trumped Tom Waits
for the #1 spot on the alternative new album chart the week of digital
release and placed #2 on the indie new album chart. Their song
“Happiness Machine” was the site’s featured daily download June 28.
Allmusic.com is another of the band’s early supporters. The online
music encyclopedia stamped the band’s new album with four out of five
stars and called the fivesome “outsiders armed with a battery of
excellent vintage keyboards, a grab bag of cool production tricks and
a fearlessness about bleeding seemingly disparate musical styles
together.” They added, “There’s not a duff track here, and the endless
invention and subtle detail on display keeps ‘Pax Futura’ listenable
across multiple hearings. This is a band to keep an eye on.”
