Annalise Emerick – Starry-Eyed (CD)

I Came Around is a song of regret and loss that mirrors well the emotional intensity felt by someone in that situation; I believe a large part of Emerick’s allure comes in being able to capture in song what a great segment of the population has had to go through. Round and Round is the teetering track on this seven-song EP, and the more pensive and quiet approach here creates…

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (Blu-Ray / DVD Combo Pack)

Rise of the Planet of the Apes is able to stop much of the decline of quality that was had between the first and second movies in their original iteration due to the strength of the actors here. James Franco, John Lithgow, and Andy Serkis all unite here to make a film that both stays relatively true to the original film while expanding upon the mythos and storyline of the…

Jules Shear – Dreams Don’t Count (CD)

As much as I wanted to say that Jules Shear has a sound that is similar to Bob Dylan during the opening track of “Dreams Don’t Count”, the fact is that Shear blazes a path for eirself by only the third or forth minute of the disc. The tracks are fairly dreamy, with the sound of acoustic rock bolstered by an atmosphere that cradles Shear’s output at all sections of…

Dirty Deeds: My Life Inside/Outside of AC/DC (Book)

AC/DC is still an amazing act. However, I was only really able to hear their music – I was not as privy to the band’s ins and outs as my father, for example. However, Mark Evans (AC/DC’s first bass player) is able to provide the information that I was missing. Evans shows how unique of a band that AC/DC truly was; they came from Australia at a point where all…
