“Biz Love’s Sluts” is an interesting track, as it shows Riverboat Gamblers as a band that know well the pop punk that infected California in the early part of the nineties, but also shows that the band wants to unite this style with the emo/punk style of bands like Rise Against. The band changes up their style with “The Song We Used to Call “Wasting Time”” is much quicker, and…

The time has finally come for Los Angeles’ biggest breakout act, Black Veil Brides, to unleash their major label debut, Set The World on Fire, on Lava Records/Universal Republic Records. The album is available in stores and online now and “it’s full of breakneck tempos, crunchy guitars and shout-along melodies custom designed for an arena sized audience” (Revolver). Set The World On Fire is the follow-up to their chart-topping debut…
It takes a film like Wild Cherry to show me exactly the amount of different titles being released at any one given time. This 2009 film is finally seeing the light of day due to the tremendous work of Image Entertainment. This teen sex comedy focuses on the decision of Helen (Tania Raymonde) to provide eir boyfriend with one of the greatest gifts that ey can give – eir virginity.…
Even though the band says that this EP is “basically a practice tape with a facelift”, the fact is the tremendous energy of the band shines through, clean as day. The apeshit-crazy mood of “The Things You Saved Can’t Be Replaced”, having all the members of Rise and Shine blast through their parts with the utmost speed from the “starting line” of its synthesizer opening. Seamlessly moving from pop-punk to…
This year, two amazing acts are set to perform at the 2011 Cornerstone Festival in Bushnell, IL! Christian metalcore giants THE CHARIOT will be headlining the HM Encore Stage in the Underground Tent on Sunday, July 3rd at 11:15pm, sharing the stage with The Satire, War of Ages, and more. THE CHARIOT is performing at Cornerstone during their run with the SCREAM THE PRAYER tour. REFORM THE RESISTANCE will be…
The conventional wisdom is that one needs a solid caffeine base for any sort of energy pill. There are a few companies currently creating products that have realized that this does not need to be the case. Anabolic Innovations have placed a small amount of caffeine in Motivate, but have presented individuals with a blend of a number of other elements. The list of different ingredients here includes Schizandra extract,…
Rise and Shine has been a solid band in the central Ohio scene for at least a year to my knowledge, and this album really cleans up any minor issues the band may have had with their production circa their 2004 EP. Especially present in their re-done “The Things You’ve Saved Can’t Be Replaced”, Rise and Shine shines through, aided by an especially generous mastering. Opening the follow-up to “Replaced”,…

I believe that it is pretty humorous that I was only informed that the Amazing Race was still on the air after receiving a case of Snapple Papaya Mango Tea for review. This variety of tea comes in a normal and a diet formulation, with a significantly different flavor profile for each. The Diet tea seems to be the more attractive of the two. The sweetness of the mango in…
Okay, how is this album going to sound. Rise Against’s last album, “Siren Song of the Counter-Culture” was hit after hit, but how will “The Sufferer and The Witness” even sound? After the band kicks into “Chamber the Cartridge”, I had little doubt in my heart that the band would deliver with this album. If anything, Rise Against have started listening to their early Offspring albums for a little bit…

I’ve never liked Rise Against as much as many of my friends, but these five cuts off of “Siren Song of the Counter-Culture” has fast become some of the most-played tracks on my radio show. “Paper Wings” has the perfect mix of scratchy vocals and smoothed-out yet break-neck guitar lines. The tightness of the band is also a key factor into the massive enjoyment I’ve taken from this disc, whether…
DINOFLAGELLATE BLOOMS features eleven compositions composed, produced and performed by Manorexia aka JG Thirlwell. Begun in Berlin in 2005, and completed in 2011. The album was recorded at Thirlwell’s Self Immolation studios in Brooklyn, and the 5.1 mixes were made at Harvestworks Studio with Paul Geluso. The album follows the release of last year’s acclaimed Mesopelagic Waters on John Zorn’s Tzadik label, which was performed by Manorexia as a chamber…
Louie is the perfect example of how FX may just be the best cable channel currently in existence. While hindered in terms of storyline by the fact that it does not enjoy the same hands-off status as an HBO or Showtime, FX does a tremendous job in stretching the boundaries and creating new and innovative types of shows for their viewers. Louie, starring Louis CK, is a perfect example of…
The type of music that has been present on the Fast and Furious franchise’s soundtracks has been the perfect blend of genres, tempos, and sounds. The blazing speed of each of the films is presented quite well with their soundtracks, and the Fast Five Soundtrack does not disappoint. The disc’s first track, “How We Roll” by Busta Rhymes, will immediately kick listeners in the ass and keep them focused in…
We were lucky enough to review the first half of Big Time Rush’s first season a few months back, and the release of the second half so soon after the first shows that Nickelodeon wishes to strike while the iron is hot. For those viewers that wish to go back and see what they may have missed the first time, this is a great thing to hear. SargeantJohn Sargeant, writing…
