So, a brief story about this release. We had a reviewer at NeuFutur that requested this title. They flaked out. I took over and finally found a copy of the album, and have been spinning it nonstop since then. Piano Red is nothing less than Atlanta blues royalty, and The Lost Atlanta Tapes represents recordings that were previously deemed lost. SargeantJohn Sargeant, writing on NeuFutur as Sargeant, is the founder…
For the first time in history, Chicago will host the US AIR GUITAR NATIONAL FINALS. On July 23rd at METRO, US Air Guitar’s nationwide search for the country’s finest professional air guitarists will culminate in what will doubtlessly become Chicago’s premiere summer event. The 2011 US Air Guitar National Finals will pit nearly two dozen handpicked winners from 18 cities across the country against one another in a battle for…
There is little information present online about the HD Cinema Classics label. In fact, after giving Dementia 13 a spin, the only thing that I know about the company is that they are looking to become a major force in giving forgotten-about films the light of day. Dementia 13 is one of the examples of this; Francis Ford Coppola’s first film is cleaned up and given its proper chance to…
Safely guarded behind four pairs of glasses and an arsenal of awkward tendencies, the members of By Surprise have spent an equal amount of time combing through the forgotten dust-filled grooves of 7-inch records released during the 90s indie label boom, as they have with the off-beat and inspirational works of Henry David Thoreau, Jack Kerouac, and Douglas Adams. Mountain Smashers, the band’s first full-length album, and their first with…
You may remember Baiyu from MTVu’s “The Freshmen”, but she’s graduated and ready to share her soulful sounds with the world. Baiyu has released her new single Together via iTunes, Bandcamp, and GlobalGrind.com. Baiyu’s new EP, Fan Fair, will debut April 15th on her official website www.baiyuonline.com, and will be a free download – this being a gift to her many fans that have supported her career and continue to…
Over the last ten years, bouncing back and forth from Chicago to NYC, Zachary Mastoon composed a diverse and critically-acclaimed catalog under the alias Caural. Pressing wax for such labels as Chocolate Industries, Mush, Plug Research, Sound in Color and many others, his song-oriented compositions and flair for unique sonic juxtaposition continue to set him apart from his contemporaries in the beat scene. Yet it was only by default –…
Coming off a successful SXSW, and recent nomination for Best New Artist at The Austin Music Awards, Candi and The Strangers drop their video for album single, “Glide”, this week. Directed and filmed completely by the band’s own John and Samantha Constant, for their House of Constant imprint, the video combines video projection, stop-motion animation and live footage to follow a non-sentient android through a post-apocolyptic waste land of pop…

Never assume that the quality of jeans is limited to those types that are available in normal department stores. I nearly did that with Wrangler, and I am glad to admit that I gave their Wrangler Premium Performance jeans a spin. I’ve been lucky enough to lose a substantial amount of weight over the last eight months, so the jeans that I had were ill-fitting. The three pairs of jeans…
Minnesota-based songwriter Jeremy’s Messersmith & his band have announced The Graveyard Tour, a new set of summer dates out to the East coast visiting and performing at graveyards in each city, as well as a scheduled NPR Tiny Desk Concert on June 20th. Infamous for his cross platform creativity, his papercraft animation Tatooine video (where he sums up the Star Wars Trilogy in two minutes), received outstanding praise and was…
Floridian heavy trio FLOOR are about to embark on their first proper tour in over eight years. Since disbanding, FLOOR’s overdue notoriety has slowly grown, due in part from laying the foundation for guitar player/vocalist Steve Brooks’ non-stop activity in TORCHE. Reuniting to celebrate the release of their massive “Below & Beyond” discography/box set, FLOOR returned for a few key shows over the past year to an overwhelmingly positive response.…
After whetting appetites for cerebral pop music of the highest caliber with their ‘Fail Forever’ EP, a fantastic Nicolas Jaar remix, and their slow-mo cover an 80’s rave classic, Danish four piece When Saints Go Machine are ready to unveil their most fully realized work to date, the full length album Konkylie. Discover a highlight from the record via the beautiful ‘Add Ends’ video, directed by Dawn Carol Garcia. http://whensaintsgomachine.com/…
Recording artist extraordinaire Brute Force has been selected for a part in a new musical, “Barcode The Musical.” Late last year, Brute’s 1967 debut album “I Brute Force – Confections of Love” was re-issued for the first time. The release came through Bar/None Records and bonus tracks included “King of Fuh” which was slated to be released on Apple Records – copies manufactured and everything — till EMI refused to…
Shilpa Ray and Her Happy Hookers may just be the largest band we’ve ever reviewed without a Wikipedia. I am confident that as soon as listeners can give “Teenage and Torture” a fair shake, that those in the know at Wikipedia will fall over themselves creating a page for them. This band has had one previous recording – 2009’s A Fish Hook An Open Eye – which set the stage…

This is the first product that we have been lucky enough to review from Redefine Nutrition. Simply put, it is one of the best weight loss and energy-providing supplements that we have used yet. The versatility of Pro Xanthine means that individuals just wishing to lose pounds will benefit just as much as those that are doing a focused and sustained cutting phase in their workout regimen. An individual just…
