CORPSESSED To Unleash Debut EP Through Dark Descent Records

Finnish death metal outfit CORPSESSED has signed with Dark Descent Records for the CD release of their self-titled debut EP. Scheduled for an early 2011 release, the EP features six tracks of bludgeoning old-school death in the vein of Entombed, Incantation, Deicide, Immolation and Grave. Select tracks from the EP have been posted on the band’s official Myspace site, while more information on CORPSESSED can be found on their Facebook…

Picket Line – Chapter: End (CD)

The mixture of rock and emo music that Picket Line starts off their “Chapter: End” is probably the smartest move that the band can make with their opening salvo. By tying together the two most popular genres of music on the market, Picket Line have shown that they can reach a large segment of the listening audience. The music is not just done to bring listeners to purchase this album,…

Way Yes To Release NEW EP Walkability January 25th: RIYL Dirty Projectors, Beat Happening, Fela Kuti

Way Yes are as prolific as promised. After releasing Herringbone late last year, remixing Computer Magic, and keeping their spear sharp, the guys are greeting up to drop another EP, Walkability. Herringbone was great of course, but Walkability is something else entirely. The band grew up fast – more candid lyricism, tighter sound, wider sonic palette. Way Yes leans more heavily on psychedelia than dance floor-ready bangers this go ’round.…

The Photo Atlas – No, Not Me, Never (CD)

“Electric Shock” has The Photo Atlas start like any number of dance punk acts that were on the lips of indie scene kids from 2003 on. In fact, the spastic nature of “Electric Shock” is reminiscent of The Rapture, even if the vocals attempt to go in an At The Drive-In direction. The Photo Atlas will be big when this album gets to the right people, but I don’t know…

THE ACCUSED Announce New Drummer

Like a bunch of zombies drunk on embalming fluid, veteran hardcore thrashers THE ACCUSED prepare to take their Splatter-Rock-Speakeasy and After-Hours-Sicko-Sideshow into turbo-nuclear-tombstone-kicking overdrive with the announcement of a new stick-breaker in Warren A. Pease (pronounced “war ‘n’ peace”) Said the band in a collective statement: “He’s a relatively young chap at the tender age of 25. Then again, with THE ACCUSED founding guitarist, Tommy Niemeyer rounding the corner heading…

Incase is pleased to premiere the second installment of Room 205 with La Sera, the solo project of Vivian Girls’ Katy Goodman. This week, Incase has unveiled the second song…

Phoenix Mourning – When Excuses Become Antiques (CD)

Phoenix Mourning is an interesting signature for Metal Blade. The overall sound that the band puts forward during tracks like “Contrast” is a equal part blend of emo and Disturbed-like metal. The blend is not something that occurs frequently, and I’m not sure if I’ve heard a band at this level attempt something so daring. But, does this gambit work out, and is Phoenix Mourning an act that individuals should…

The Phoenix Foundation – Horsepower (CD)

The dreamy pop of “Sister Risk” is a low-key entrance into the popular music world. The bass line might be pretty active, but the overall sound shows The Phoenix Foundation as a band that coasts on a certain inertia. The first few tracks of “Horsepower” shows much of the same sound; at least, at some point The Phoenix Foundation is constant in the style of music that they commit to…

A Phoenix Down – The Debauchery Continues (CD)

“The Debauchery Continues” is only effort number two on behalf of Cleveland area rockers A Phoenix Down, but from the sound of the breakdowns and harmonies over this 7-track musical persuasion, they have me convinced that it’s time to hit big. First evidence to me is in the intro leading perfectly into what I would call the EP’s catchiest song, ‘On Stage or in a Bar Fight’. The intro/song combination…

Josh Xantus Bio

“Continue to carry out the legacy of being a musician that represents real music,” is what the iconic Stevie Wonder expressed to up and coming singer-songwriter Josh Xantus. Catching the ear of the pitch-perfect Stevie Wonder is unheard of for a new artist. However, after one listen to the fresh sound of his debut album, Can I Live?, it’s no shocker the entertainment industry is taking notice of Josh Xantus.…

John Phillips – The Wolfking of L.A. (CD)

I must say, I love it when discs are re-released that have been out of the purview of individuals for years and years. “The Wolfking of L.A.” is one of these albums, as John Phillips with tracks like “April Anne” play a contemplative band of pop music that plays on styles of country, rock and a myriad other styles in its ultimate creation of a distinct style. The use of…

THE BAND OF HEATHENS HEAT UP CLEVELAND IN PREPARATION FOR NEW CD

It was a year ago, Jan 2010, that the guys last visited Cleveland and a lot has happened since then: they were nominated for another Americana Music Award, they released two new free songs for their fans, they’ve been touring steadily and they JUST celebrated their 5th anniversary as a band! Here’s a tasty rendition of one of their fan-faves: “CORNBREAD” – August 6th in Portland, ORE:

Person – Entitled (CD)

There are so many albums that have came on the market in the last few months that do not look like the music that is ultimately contained within. What Person does with their “Entitled” is a liter version of techno than what was provided by Nine Inch Nails during their “Down The Spiral” album. “Fall of Perception” blends together pieces of the aforementioned Nine Inch Nials with acts as ambient…

Glen Phillips – Mr. Lemons (CD)

For those individuals that were fans of nineties rock, Glen Phillips was at one point the lead singer of Toad The Wet Sprocket. Things change, it is a few years in the future and Phillips comes to “Mr. Lemons” with an opening track in “Everything But You” that washes over individuals. This track mixes the vocals of a Bryan Adams with a Stevie Nicks-like backing set of vocals and an…
