Sweethead, the new group created by Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age, A Perfect Circle, Failure) and fronted by lead vocalist Serrina Sims, released their debut album last month (The End Records) and just announced a handful of new dates in the western US with Nico Vega and Scarlet Grey. SweetheadSweethead also features Eddie Nappi on bass (Mark Lanegan Band, Handsome), and Norm Block on drums (Mark Lanegan…
The Strange Boys are a phenomenal young group from Austin, Texas. They are at the same time, both timeless and refreshingly avant garde. Set to appeal to anyone who has a liking for top quality beat and blues influenced rock n’ roll. The band has had a phenomenal year, starting with the release of their second album, Be Brave, followed quickly by a US tour with Spoon, including a show…
Lanky has shifted eir general sound slightly to a more indie-rock type of feel, as the beginning of “Odd Hour Work Week”, specifically “Falling Hard For The Girl”, shows. The reedy flute comes into play during the second track, “Crashing The Car Is Learning To Drive”, which maintains a cool, detached sound even with the inclusion of this organic instrument. The differing sounds that struggle throughout “Crashing” really provide a…
Minnesota’s facebreaking grindcore trio AMBASSADOR GUN have announced a hot-ass Summer assault through the Midwest and Western US for the later half of July. The band have been writing and recording loads of new material recently, for a limited edition EP entitled Fear & Coercion which will be available on this tour only, as well as for an upcoming full-length. Some of this new material will be played live for…
Coming up with a style of music that can be found blaring at any frat house any day of the week, Lanky still does it surprisingly well, much like the Majestic Twelve. Even though Lanky is an individual that fits in with the singer/songwriter with an acoustic tag, the fact is that the live recordings on this disc are vibrant enough that it makes it seem than an entire backing…
New Jersey melodic metal quartet VTT (http://www.myspace.com/vttrocks) recently returned from the successful three week “Victims Of Sin Summer Tour” and have already confirmed six more shows in the coming months, including a fund raiser for the National Wildlife Refuge, a fundraiser for Ronnie James Dio’s Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund as well as appearances at The Power & The Fury Festival, and Richmond Metalfest. The band continues to support…
Northern California duo, Gwyneth and Monko, will bring their earnest, stripped-down blend of folk, Americana and blues when they begin the late summer leg of their 17 city Western tour through California, Oregon and Washington to celebrate the release of their first EP, “Good Old Horse”, due out July 20th. Gwyneth Moreland has a voice that invokes Jenny Lewis’ solo work crossed with the intimate folk of Gillian Welch. Michael…
Lamb of God has been on of the hardest acts in the United States in the last few years (I would have to say that a few other metal bands all over the world might be able to come up with harder and more brutal music. Anyways, “Sacrament” starts out fairly slowly for a thrash meets death metal album, with the guitars on “Walk With Me In Hell” being a…
With his vivid poetic narratives and warm orchestration, Sea Wolf’s music has always carried with it an aura of intimacy, and now for the first time ever, he (Alex Brown Church) will embark on a solo acoustic tour embracing the close setting. Church, typically accompanied by a five-piece band, will scale back his performances and instead, don the stage with just a guitar and his singular voice. Appropriately, the 30-date…
Ryan Breen didn’t mean to burn that abandoned house down. Not to the ground, at least. And yet, here he was, spending the 4th of July in a Phoenix jail… “The whole experience left me in a weird emotional state,” explains the beat-slinger/singer behind Back Ted N-Ted. “I had no way of processing it, so I started writing all of this strange material that got me over a fear of…

The product of this live album is something that honestly holds a candle to previous live works like KISS’s “Alive” or Cheap Trick’s “Budokan” album. The music contained within is solid enough to conceivably be on a studio recording, while the addition of live singalongs to a number of the tracks really adds another dimension to this disc. What is even more impressive is the fact that these tracks were…
Recently we announced the Southern Lord West Coast mini tour — featuring Eagle Twin, Black Breath, Goatsnake, Righteous Fool (featuring members of Corrosion Of Conformity) and the Animosity-album lineup of Corrosion Of Conformity — set to take place this August 8th through 12th. The short but massive tour will be led off by a festival of monolithic proportions, being dubbed The Power Of The Riff Fest 2010. Converse presents…. ‘The…
The straight-forward emo rock of Lakota makes for tracks that are relentless in their mission, trying to make the most compelling music for both Clearchannel listeners and individuals that must have interesting arrangements in their music. In a sense, tracks like “She Has It” maintain some of the same fury of early Foo Fighters recording, in that the general tempo is somewhat aurally similar to the aforementioned band’s “Everlong”. When…

The average track on “Ultimate Destroyer” is not a short one, with the eight songs of the disc reaching well over the thirty-eight minute mark. The band does not need anything in the way o fvocals to affect ttheir listeners; all that Lair of the Minotaur needs to rock is the guitars, bass, and drums that are typically present on a metal disc. When vocals do occur (as is the…

Q:What’s your story? How’d you fall into music? Well, my parents tell me that I used to sing way back when I was three years old. The farthest back I can remember is singing in the talent show in first grade. Everyone always told me that I had a beautiful voice; it makes other people happy, I love doing it, and it’s really my passion. SargeantJohn Sargeant, writing on NeuFutur…
