Afflicted – re-release of the debut album Set For September 2nd

Afflicted debuted when the Swedish metal scene was crawling with Entombed and Unleashed clones, all far from any originality. The Stockholm five-piece had a different approach towards death metal – they offered complex and intriguing music, reaching far beyond the typical Swedish school of metal. Their first and most acclaimed album – “Prodigal Sun” – was a groundbreaking release, unfortunately overshadowed by the flood of other death metal bands at…

Double re-issue of Impulse Manslaughter Set For September in U.S.

Today’s metal scene is known for combining various genres such as punk, hardcore, grind, death and thrash metal, and shaping them into new subgenres. But if you dig deeper in heavy music history, you’d be surprised that metalcore, grindcore or crustcore were played long before they had a name! Impulse Manslaughter proves that even in the 80’s punk and metal did collaborate, creating the same extreme combinations we know today.…

DREAM BITCHES Ride Succes of Coke-and-Spiriters

“Cute and catchy, the Dream Bitches weave folk-style harmonies with simple acoustic instrumentation. They breathe fresh air into the riot grrrl scene with their clever approach that doesnt involve heavy guitars and screaming. Instead they provide a dreamy cloak over the smart, punky lyrics. Without listening too closely, the girls could be singing about walking down the beach with balloons or their favorite cat with their at-first innocent flair. But…

Sleep in sweet change #2

This zine is done by Sarah, known best for her Quixotic Distro (not the zine Quixotic Potential, thought). Sleep in sweet change really forces one to think in a different way, as the method of Sarah’s madness is to recap her experiences through a collection of journal pieces. This in itself is not anything innovative, but she shows her reading audience that long-distance relationships do work over longer periods of…

The Walkmen To Release Their Fantastic Fourth Album You & Me Out This Fall On Gigantic Music

The music that inspired the Walkmen to compose You and Me follows in a tradition of song writing that goes back to early rock ‘n’ roll: the intimacy and energy of Elvis Presley’s and Buddy Holly’s early recordings, and the massive voice and orchestration of Roy Orbison. And it carries on through people like Bob Marley and Randy Newman and on to bands like The Pogues and The Modern Lovers…

When in Doubt…Bring Everything

As a musician who has been performing nearly every weekend for the past seven years, the best advice I could ever give to any nascent gigster is to bring everything. When it comes to playing out, the one thing you can absolutely count on is that things break. Cables die, tubes fail, drum heads tear, and singers bleed. Of course, there’s the obvious stuff you’re all prepared to deal with…

MMP’s Re-Release of Pegasus’ Albums Out Now

According to many musical critics, classic heavy metal is a dead genre, buried deep somewhere in the 80’s. But every once in a while a fresh new band invades the scene to prove these critics wrong. The Australian formation Pegazus is just the band to prove that classic metal music is doing good and isn’t going anywhere. The four-piece managed to bring back the same magic that was once delivered…
