The proverbial wind that is always gusting from Chicago never seems to cease but in terms of its most promising musical exports, that breeze proves to be a piercing and chilling gale of heaving guitars and spacey resonance. Holly Golightly & the Brokeoffs, heralded by NME as “a glorious example of what rock ’n’ roll should be,†have signed with Transdreamer Records (distributed by MRI Distribution/RED) and are preparing their first American release as a band. Titled Dirt Don’t Hurt, the CD is slated for a street date of October 14, 2008. “Band,†however, is a figurative term for Holly and company— Holly Golightly and Lawyer Dave (a.k.a.…

After four years, it feels like Conor Oberst’s label Team Love has came full circle. The first release on the Team Love label was Tilly and the Wall’s “Wild Like Childrenâ€, and at this moment, “o†is the current release that they are pandering. Tilly and the Wall’s “o†is their third full-length release, set on the same 2 year publishing schedule that “Wild Like Children†and “Bottoms of Barrels
Reno 911 is perhaps the best series that Comedy Central still has on the air. Obviously, South Park is up there, but Reno 911 has really gelled into one of the best comedy shows that is currently being aired. Intrepid fans will obviously know that much of the staff of the Reno Sheriff’s department comes from the criminally underrated The State (which as of this point has not been placed…
Truly unclassifiable high-energy rockers TUB RING are set to embark on a month-long US tour in August with ‘Lost’ Angeles macabre rock duo CREATURE FEATURE. After kicking off the tour in St. Louis, MO, TUB RING will connect with CREATURE FEATURE at Java Jazz in Houston, TX, continuing from there east and up the east coast before heading through the Midwest and the Rockies on their way to Portland, OR.…
After a string of raucous US dates in anticipation of the release of “Wagonwheel Blues”, The War on Drugs is getting geared up for August UK/EU dates. “Wagonwheel Blues” came out in the UK on June 2. Sideshow #2 / $1 / :10 / 32S / http://www.drunkingham.com / 5460 Entrance Dr, Soquel, CA 95073 /Â Sideshow is a zine that does not worry about the conventions f PC culture, and this freedom really opens up the things that editor Steve can conceivably write about in eir zine. Memorable pieces include a cut-out from a random newspaper that extols the virtues of the 32 oz Miller High Life,…
The summer of 2008 belongs to John Mayer, with the release of Where The Light Is: John Mayer Live in Los Angeles on July 1st, a two month amphitheatre tour (newly added dates can be found below) to kick off in July, as well as a feature on the cover of Rolling Stone’s guitar issue for the second year in a row. Greetings and salutations, friends. I am STOKED, because a) I get to see Maps & Atlases tonight, and b) I also get to announce some great news about ’em: MAPS & ATLASES ARE RELEASING A NEW EP ON SARGENT HOUSE THIS JUNE 16TH. IT’S CALLED “YOU AND ME AND THE MOUNTAIN”. c) Maps are touring with the zeal and tenacity of a fox in a henhouse (What does that even…
After witnessing the chaos and energy of a These Are Powers live set, we were immediately enthralled with this band, and after a long courtship and a some hot and heavy dating, we are excited to announce the start of a long and fruitful union between These Are Powers and Dead Oceans. First, Dead Oceans will re-release of “Taro Tarot” and “Terrific Seasons” on October 7 in the U.S. and…
Lemuria is guitarist/vocalist Sheena Ozzella, bassist Jason Draper, and drummer/vocalist Alex Kerns. The band formed in 2004 and, in true DIY fashion, self-released several EPs and 7â€s over the past few years. In 2006, they released a split LP with Kind of Like Spitting, which was released on Art of the Underground, a record label/distro run by drummer Alex. They’ve also done a 5-week tour of Europe and generally tour…
“Violens, a new project featuring Lansing-Dreiden members, may be less than a year old, but they are already the best discovery of this collection. Their stoned, sweet “Trance Like Turn” features sunny, vintage harmonies that peek through the gray clouds of their steely, post-punk beats and synthesized aggression.” SargeantJohn Sargeant, writing on NeuFutur as Sargeant, is the founder and editor-in-chief of NeuFutur Magazine, where he has covered independent music, PC…
Alas, this is the last issue of this fabulous all-submission magazine, although the editor of the magazine is currently in the creation process of another zine. I will try not to be biased in my review of this issue, as it is one that contained my DIY pieces “Guerrila Copy Editing”. But, I would have to say that the best piece in this issue would be “Daredevil joe” by Erica,…
The NME declares, “Shy Child are to Kraftwerk what The White Stripes are to Led Zeppelin!†And here is their story… Nate Smith (Drums) and Pete Cafarella (Vox/Keytar) met at Wesleyan University in the mid-90’s where Nate had invited Pete to join his band. Although Pete was kicked out a few days later the two formed a fast friendship that would eventually lead to the formation of Shy Child once…
I feel that the second season of 30 Days was actually stronger than the first one, but that FX seemed to sabotage that by not having too much in the way of advertisements for the show. The second season consists of six different episodes, “Immigrationâ€, “Outsourcingâ€, “Atheist & Christianâ€, “New Ageâ€, “Pro-Life, Pro-Choice†and “Jailâ€, each of which places individuals into a situation that is diametrically opposed to their own.…
As previously announced Metal Mind Productions will release new live DVD by the legendary thrash metal band – Flotsam And Jetsam. The material entitled “Once in a Deathtime†features an extremely intense show the band gave at the Metalmania Festival 2008, offering metalheads everything Flotsam and Jetsam came to be respected for: brutal non-conformist sound, a slaughter of powerful, furious and perfectly executed thrash riffs, as well as excellent song-writing.…
This is the first time that NeuFutur Magazine has had a chance to review a gaming peripheral. We have had the chance to review more than our fair share of video games, but CTA Digital really has stepped up to the plate and allowed us to take a direction that we would not normally have taken. Their new peripheral for the Nintendo Wii is their “Shot Gun for Wiiâ€, and…
The Offspring have been around longer than about 90% of their fan base has been alive. This means that the act has been together since 1984, and “Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace†shows off a maturity that befits a band that is on their eighth studio album. The album follows from “Splinter†in that all four recording members of the band – Dexter Holland, Noodles, Greg K and session…
“Argument: blogs are killing albums. We cherry pick the best songs for you to download bypassing the need to buy the album. We could debate that argument and whether we’d like to admit it or not, there is some truth to it. But the bigger truth is blogs are not killing albums any more than CDs did in the 80’s. Albums are evolving, changing and being shaped into something new.…
