Mreowkoblast #17

This comic comes from the combined efforts of Dan Moynihan, tying together both Microblast, his old comic, and Mreow, which is a blanket epithet for all of his new work. Starting at the beginning of the comic, we have some interesting pieces, including a “Caption:Caption” game, which is where one person only sees the one step that came before as they draw their contribution?. This game is intended to be…

Ghost Of The Russian Empire Debut Album Coming Soon On Thirsty Ghosts Records

“In late 2004, we decided to put a band together because people seemed to think musicians are smarter and more attractive than regular people. Not disagreeing with that line of thinking, the band was born. We played some shows and decided we should have something recorded. We told producer Erik Wofford [The Black Angels, Voxtrot] we get him face to face meeting with David Bowie and he agreed to work…

Kerli Is Walking On Air

Born in Elva, Estonia, a tiny, then-Soviet occupied town of 5,000 people in the forest, Kerli grew up with a dream to escape from her surroundings. “Little creepy girl/Oh she loves to sing/She has a little gift-an amazing thing,” Kerli declares on the autobiographical, world music beat of “Walking on Air.” The Estonian pop princess showcases the haunting yet ethereal qualities of her voice on the track off of her…

MLB ’08 (PSP)

Each subsequent release on the PSP makes me that much more sure that it will be the winner in this current generation of handheld games. Hell, give pure processing power, it even beats out the Wii in terms of realism and immerse game play. MLB ‘08, the latest installment in the MLB franchise, provides more proof of this. The key addition that has been made to this series has to…

Diamond Rexx Sees New Life Through MMP

Diamond Rexx’s history shows how much a band can evolve over the years. Starting out as a glam rock group in the 80’s, the four-piece eventually transformed into a modern alternative metal formation, marking their return to the scene with a totally new image and musical style. But their past still remains an impressive chapter. Once you hear “Land of the Damned”, Diamond Rexx’s debut album from 1986, you’ll find…

Extra Life Set to Release Full Album, Evolved From Previous Acts

EXTRA LIFE is the new band led by New York-based guitarist/vocalist Charlie Looker [member of ZS and Ocrilim, ex-Dirty Projectors].While the music retains some of the heady instrumental abstraction of his work in ZS, EXTRA LIFE moves into a far more melodic song-based realm. The compositions are still epic, complex and aggressive, yet with a lush, personal, dramatic spirit; dark, heavy avant chamber pop with a cold Gothic beauty echoing…

Metal Mind Productions Set to Release Black ‘N Blue’s “Rarities”

Back in the mid 80’s, when rock’n’roll was still on everybody’s lips, dozens of bands tried to become “the next best thing” of the music industry. Although many have tried, only few succeeded to carve their names into rock history. Among them are Black ‘N Blue, a band that never got the proper acclaim for their work, but over the years proved that good music will always defend itself. Metal…

Sweeney Todd 2-Disc Special Edition

Sweeney Todd 2-Disc  Special Edition / 2008 Warner Bros / 116 Minutes / http://www.dreamworks.com / It has been over 70 years since the last film adaptation of Sweeney Todd was made, and considering how short the period is between remakes of films nowadays(take, for example, The Hulk, which only took 5 years to cycle around), I think Warner Brothers and Dreamworks were okay to make a new version of the…

Little Grandpa

Little Grandpa I am just going to preface the review of this comic by saying that the review itself will be very short, as the comic really just is a poem with accompanying pictures. This does not mean one should immediately dismiss it or anything, but should pick up this heart-warming comic and be enthralled by the fun little poem and drawings inside. The whole idea is the loss of…

O2 Sparkling Vodka

O2 Sparkling Vodka / 2008 International English Distillers / 80 Proof / http://www.sparklingvodka.com / This is another inaugural type of review for NeuFutur. Morning Star #2 / $1 / 5.25 by 7 / 24 Pages / Abusqu@artic.edu / 4832 N. Wolcott, Apt 1NW, Chicago, IL 60632 / Coming from the Art Institute of Chicago, I should have expected as much, but Morning Star is a completely cutely drawn magazine that is a mixture of comic and perzine. With the cover being a sketch of Angelica and a bunny, all encompassed with a glitter-encrusted…
