[mag] – #9

[mag] – #9 Full Size, Newsprint, Free, 64 Pages. This is a super huge zine that has some of the same problems with it as does Maximum Rock?n?Roll and Punk Planet. The sheer number of ads is amazing, sometimexs taking up 3 or 4 pages. That trespass is a minor one compared to some of the others in this zine. About 12 different interviews scatter themselves through the zine, with…

La Lucha – Volume 2, Issue 1

. First off, the title is wrong. This is not a zine about La Lucha, this is a zine that should be called La Gimoteo. What was meant as a good liberal magazine has turned into a whiny echo of liberalism and an assault on the average person. The only lucky thing here is that this was the last issue of this rag. In the scheme of DePauw zines, this…

South Park – Imaginationland

South Park – Imaginationland / 2008 Comedy Central / 67 Minutes / http://www.comedycentral.com / It may just be me becoming a heartless bastard, but I have felt that in the last few years that South Park has gotten a lot more preachy. It may have been the addition of Norman Lear to the writing staff, it may be Matt and Trey getting older, but this really feels to be the…

Lil’ Bush : Resident of the United States Season One

Lil’ Bush : Resident of the United States Season One / 2008 Comedy Central / 132 Minutes / http://www.comedycentral.com / Throughout President Bush’s 7 years in office, Comedy Central has taken it quite often to the administration. The Modey Lemon Return with “Season of Sweets”

Pittsburgh’s most loved sons, The Modey Lemon, rip through 3 years of silence with their new record, Season Of Sweets. With one foot in the sci-fi darkness of their last record THE CURIOUS CITY, one foot in their past garage angst-ridden wreckage and one foot in the Krautrock brilliance of the German Frontier (three feet?) Season Of Sweets is a fuzzed out, driving masterpiece with catchy hooks beaten to death…

Ker-Bloom #36

This zine is one of the ones that has been out for an absurd amount of time, but hasn’t really caught on to the masses of people. The people that have read this zine are in love with it, as it is a very fun read. The only problem that I could potentially see with it was the incredibly short narrative story in this issue. Honestly, this issue of the…

The Lions Rampant – Play Rock N Roll / 2008 Self / 6 Tracks / http://www.myspace.com/thelionsrampant / The Lions Rampant are an act I must say with which I am not familiar. Their “Play Rock N Roll” starts of with “70-30”, a track that brings back the bombastic energy of sixties pop and throws a layer of MC5 on top of that. Following the retro approach of rock that acts…
