Vote Quimby – S/T [ADB]

8 songs, self released in 1999. They are great, fast pop; punk with catchy hooks and excellent audible bass playing. Although they are pop punk, they avoid the pitfalls that most pop punk bands fall into, like to glossy of a sound, or writing songs for MTV .The vocalist sounds like the singer of NOfx and the singer from the living end. They are a band that has some serious…

Matt Pond PA – Last Light

Matt Pond PA – Last Light / 2007 Altitude / 13 Tracks / http://www.mattpondpa.com / http://www.altituderecords.com / I can’t believe that Matt Pond PA has been around for practically ten years. Well, after listening to “Last Light”, I can, but still. “The title (and opening track) shows exactly mature Matt Pond PA is. The atmospheric sound of the alt-rock that the band plays has comparisons ready-made to acts like Modest…

Vitro – S/T Sampler [ADB]

This shit is plain bad. I don’t think i have heard this level of crap for a long time. This sampler was produced by once great Danzig and Slayer producer, Rick Rubin, but it seems like as Rick has grown older his taste in music has degraded. This 2 song tape sounds like a bunch of losers trying to emulate psuedo-industrial moron Trent Reznor`s band, Nine Inch Nails. My advise…

Vinnie! – Used to be Me, Used to Believe [ADB]

This album was created by Jenrazor records, in 1996, and Rodney Riffle may be reached at Riffle.8@osu.edu, or they may be written to at 181 Nottingham Ct, Westerville OH, 43081. This is a cool Indy rock band with elements of quite a few genres, life Surf Rock, Punk, and Folk. This has odd lyrics intermeshed perfectly with the music that is created by this trio. This band eventually became Fifty-Fifty,…

Devendra Banhart Gets Hella Good Reviews

When he began his performance Tuesday at the Roxy, Devendra Banhart sat, acoustic guitar in hand, plucking subdued singer-songwriter fare marked by a blissed-out delicacy. When he ended it nearly two hours later, he was stripped to the waist and practically spitting out his words as his band rolled and tumbled through the 12-bar blues pattern of “I Feel Just Like a Child.”

Viciousphere – Terror Rising [ADB]

Now a huge band playing on Loud. Viciousphere was once a small band that kicked ass-11 songs in 1995. Really good metal with all sorts of influences, including Metallica, Slayer, Pantera and Alice Cooper. all of the great parts of a band are included here, with fast noticeable bass, fast clear, guitars and great vocals. this albums is depressing because the newest single by VS sounds like White Zombie. The…

Musab Cuts Video for “Hat & Shoes”

As far as videos go, Musab’s “Hat & Shoes” is about as much of a departure from his previous video, “Baaang,” as you could imagine from the smooth-talking mack. While “Baaang” was set in his hometown of Minneapolis, “Hat & Shoes” takes place in his newer haunt, Las Vegas. Instead of firing off heavy rhymes straight into the camera, we now have Sab flowing into a microphone in a dark…

Shalini – The Surface and The Shine

Shalini – The Surface and The Shine / 2007 Electric Devil / 11 Tracks / http://www.interbridge.com/shalini / If the name Shalini sounds familiar at all, it may be because ey was a leading member of the somewhat-famous San Francisco band, Vinyl Devotion, which was founded all the way back in 1990. The style of rock that Shalini starts off their “The Surface and The Shine” with is very non-descript.

Seattle export THE BLAKES celebrated being NPR’s Song of the Day today with their fan-favorite, “Don’t Bother Me.”

The trio’s self-released album has been spritzed up and retooled, but there’s no containing the primal, giddy energy that crackles through it. Careening back and forth between desperate/lovesick and drunk/predatory, the band turns raw, conflicted desire into instantly addictive pop gems and scorching, swaggering rock. The band’s hearts and influences are on full display, but the results are wonderfully contagious. For an ideal example, delve into the winningly bouncy, vaguely…

Vic Goddard – Long Term Side Effect [ADB]

This was release in 99 on Tugboat Records, and it has 15 songs. It cost me nothing. Vic Godard has had a long history, from being in the Subway Sect, a British punk band, to now, as a Rock band as Vic Godard. The album is great, mixing reggae with rock with indy with soul. Vic is all over the musical map, drawing from an amazing amount of influences to…
