It isn’t easy to pull off punk in a time when the sounds and sights of the subculture have been commercialized to the farthest ends of Planet Retail, but every once in a while comes a band that can break out of the teen demographic that bands can get stuck in. Toronto’s Die Mannequin – a trio of fierce musicians that have collaborated with MSTRKRFT, Ian D’sa of Billy Talent,…
For those individuals that know me, I have to wear glasses. I’ve never gotten anything in the way of contacts because my eyes are incredibly sensitive, and during those moments when I feel that I do not look with glasses, I consider Lasik surgery. The only thing that I am worried about with Lasik surgery is the possibility of having macular degeneration (I think I’ve heard that it is a…
14 songs on Pervertidora records ,1999. Wow i dont think i have ever heard an album quite like this, because it is all orchestral compositions, but twisted, and is made into a etheral soundtrack to zone out to, very demented like. This is what experimental and industrial music should sound like, Not bull shit like NIN or FLA. MUB definitely takes from Aphex Twin, Kraftwerk, and Throbbing Gristle. This is…

Caterpillar Tracks – Scrape The Summer / 2007 Phratry Records / 5 Tracks / http://www.phratryrecords.com / Caterpillar Tracks is an act that we know well at NeuFutur. We reviewed their self-titled album a few years back, and “Scrape The Summer†continues with the same rich style. “It’s Scientific, Goddamn†is a track that has a lot of Replacements and 1986-era Goo Goo Dolls present in the overall sound, but this…

This was released in 1987 on Megaforce records, and this has 23 songs. MOD, which stands for Masters of Destruction, sounds like DRI mixed with old (read:good) Exodus. The guitars are fast, which mostly brutal riffs on the low end of the E and A strings. The leas singer Bill Milano, half talks/screams his way through each songs. This screaming limits each of the songs to only 1 or 2…
This 5 song EP was released on Broken Rekids. I paid $2 for this slab of plastic. Me First is another band with the older punk/rock feel, sounding like The Donnas, the Runaways, and Joan Jett. They have very classical (read:70’s) guitar riffs, and a shitload of distortion. Mr First is also another all female punk band. Me First’s vocals are rough and deep, which just adds to the 70’s…
