pacificUV: longplay 2 on April 1st, 2008!

On April 1, 2008, Portland, Oregon space-rockers pacificUV will release their second LP, longplay 2, on WARM Recordings. At first listen, it might be tempting to lump Pacific UV into the pile of the umpteen bands that worship at the alter of Spacemen 3. But if you listen further and dig deeper, you’ll notice that there’s much more that’s going on under that pretty surface. Founded in 1998, pacificUV was…

Gather Children #4

Gather Children #4 / Half-Sized / 24 Pages / [email protected] /  I had talked to this individual for a decent period of time before actually seeing their zine. After talking to them for such a long period, the context of this zine begins to make sense. Utterly disjointed and manic in its nature, Gather Children is not an easy read. Starting off fairly linear with a very Jello Biafra-esque faux…

Loaning

It has been more and more the case that individuals have a tremendous amount of deb. The latest figures put the debt burden for the average family in the United States at around 10 large, and this value is only going to get higher as the years pass. It is thus essential for individuals to take some sort of step forward. Thus, doing something like debt consolidation will ensure that…

Sourvein, Ganon, and Zoraster Set Out on Tour

Sourvein are serious, down-tuned sludge/doom with the Southern flavor of bands like Down and Eyehategod. Following their debut full-length on Southern Lord Rec’s, the band’s This Dark Reign debut EP Emerald Vulture was an ugly 17 minutes of slow, hateful, grinding darkness, full of thick guitars and malicious vocals. Ghetto Angel, the bands’ second EP in a series of three for TDR, charges forth with the bands’ signature style of…

Small Business Funding

I have been doing NeuFutur, running it as a business, for about a decade. It is through Small Business Funding that I will be able to go and really expand my business. This could mean that I would have funds to pay staffers, to be able to go and cover live shows, or to do any one of hundreds of other things for the magazine.

Action Painters – Chubby Dancer

Action Painters – Chubby Dancer / 2007 Self / 7 Tracks / http://www.actionpaintersband.com / This version of the Action Painters is from Brooklyn. The original action painters were individuals that included painters like Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, and Franz Kline. I consider myself lucky that the music on “Chubby Dancer” is nothing like the work of the early action painters. This means that the opening track, “Absolutely Clear” is…

The Billionaires – Really Real For Forever

The Billionaires – Really Real For Forever / 2007 Self / 10 Tracks / http://www.myspace.com/billionairesband / Anyone that knows me knows that I usually just get rid of about 99% of the CDs that I review for the zine. We just get way too many, and I have no room for a vast majority of the ones we receive (also, most of them suck). However, The Billionaires make an album…
