Family Guy – Something, Something, Something, Dark Side (DVD)

The first Family Guy special having to do with Star Wars was universally accepted and watched obsessively; it is not surprising then that the sequel, Something, Something, Something, Dark Side has some big shoes to fill. To do that, MacFarlane has went and added a new supporting cast of characters, which include Mort Goldman as Lando Calrissian and the evil Chicken as Boba Fett. As usual, MacFarlane does a hell…

The Marine 2 (Blu-Ray)

The original Marine seemed to have a pretty good ending to it, one that didn’t really necessitate a sequel. Where WWE Superstar John Cena was in the original film, Ted DiBiase (son of the famed “Million Dollar Man”) is heading up this one. Joe Linwood (DiBiase) has to save eir wife after a party that both are attending is broken up by a terrorist sect. Stranded without any assistance from…

The Kraken Black Spiced Rum (94 Proof)

The Kraken in nautical mythology was a creature so dangerous, living so deep in the ocean that any mariner that would have a chance to meet it would face certain death. The rum is a proper creature worthy of The Kraken name, and should be the next spiced rum that makes its way into your liquor cabinet. The Kraken is one evil-looking rum, with the coloration of The Kraken looking…

Life on Mars, Series 2 (DVD)

Life on Mars failed miserably in its US version, but there was a reason why the U.S. version was commissioned in the first place. Acorn’s release of the second season of Life on Mars is more evidence of that, with over seven hours of footage to persuade viewers. This season goes much more into depth about whether Sam is actually in 1973 or 2006, and further explores the relationships that…

Election Day (DVD)

Election Day is a film that looks to showcase all the different sides of the 2004 election in a way that had never been done before. While there have been tremendous amounts of time given to the president speeches and such from the era, Katy Chevigny wants to see how everything can be placed together to create a cogent narrative. The geographic focus of the film is just as large…

Clear Creek Distillery Pear Brandy

There is a seriously high amount of pears in the Clear Creek Pear Brandy. The website for the Clear Creek Distillery says that thirty pounds of Pears are utilized in each 750ML bottle of their brandy. The initial nose from the Pear Brandy is nothing to scoff at; one smell and an individual will be floored if they are not expecting it. This is not a lightly-fragranced spirit, and while…

Glee Season 1 Volume 1: Road To Sectionals (DVD Set)

I must admit, I was not a fan of Glee when it first came on. The songs were a little too hackneyed, the productions of the performances a little too polished for what was supposed to be a high school glee club. However, as the season went on, I found myself paying more attention to each episode. This is because the main storyline present was able to showcase a set…

The Complete Idiot’s Guide To Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery (Book)

While some may say that the Complete Idiot’s Guides are getting increasingly less relevant as the years go on, I feel that there are still a lot of good things to be educated about coming out of these titles. In “Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery”, Margaret Furtado and Joseph Ewing match wits to create a fulfilling and healthy life for those individuals that have elected to choose weight loss…

Van Gogh Double Espresso (70 Proof)

We have been looking for a special time to break out the Van Gogh and give it a proper review, and we thought that the New Years Eve holiday would be the best time for it. The vodka, which is now turning 10, has steadily crafted some of the more memorable fruit-flavored vodkas on the market (including Pineapple, Raspberry, and Melon).

Big Love: The Complete Third Season (DVD Set)

Big Love was a show that I had heard boatloads about, but only got to pick up on the show when the wife and I were at the Arcade in Cleveland. The one thing that we noticed is that HBO has done a hell of a job ensuring that viewers that might be completely new to the show (like we were) would be able to appreciate any random episode. The…

Ciroc Coconut (Vodka)

Ciroc Coconut is the first spirit that we have received that has not actively been on the market yet, so I feel as if our little Alcohol Reviews section is finally getting somewhere. As that is enough of an aside, we will take an in-depth look at the spirit now. Ciroc itself had been an interesting anomaly in terms of vodka. Where a great number of higher-end vodkas pride themselves…

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia: A Very Sunny Christmas (DVD)

Christmas and holiday specials more generally have been plagued for years by a style of writing that breaks the characters in question from their normal motivation and fills them with some sort of cross-cutting holiday spirit. All involved with the It’s Always Sunny holiday special have ensured that this does not happen, and as a result, this special is one that will be remembered. First off, the DVD version of…

Up (Blu-Ray)

Up is one of those films that practically everyone I talked to appreciated. Some found it ultimately sad, others funny, but all appreciated the work that Pixar and Disney put into it. The film itself really discusses the limits of truth, whether it be the possibility of setting a house to flight through the use of numerous balloons or the dethroning of Charles F. Muntz (Christopher Plummer) through what all…

Kobe Doin’ Work (DVD)

It is interesting to see Spike Lee move into sports. Of course, everyone knows that Lee has been a fixture at many a Knicks game, but I personally though that ey would stick with the feature films for a while longer.

(500) Days of Summer (Blu-Ray)

(500) Days of Summer is a romantic comedy that seems to strip away many of the played-out features of the genre while still coming forth as eminently approachable for all audiences. The film itself may be a little challenging to get into at first due to the non-linear path it takes. This means that different scenes from Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Summer’s (Zooey Deschanel)’s relationship are shown. While there seems…

Sol Skugga – Fairytales and Lullabies (CD)

We here at NeuFutur HQ reviewed Sol Skugga’s last album, “Swimming Without Webbed Toes”, about a year and a half ago (https://neufutur.com/?p=3814). The album itself was a great introduction to Skugga’s unique form of music, but I see “Fairytales and Lullabies” to be an evolutionary shift for the better. “Burn Her” is a very traditional, almost medieval track that benefits greatly from Skugga’s powerful voice. The vocals clash greatest with…

Kahlua Coffee Cream (Liqueur)

Anyone that knows me on NeuFutur or at the headquarters knows that I am not a fan of coffee in the slightest. I was going to sit this review out, but the other reviewers urged me to familiarize myself with Kahlua’s latest offering. I am glad that I had the ability to try it, as it is one of the better creamy liqueurs that I have had since we have…

Know Your Mushrooms (DVD)

Know Your Mushrooms is directed by Ron Mann, who was the creative mind behind counter-cultural film Grass, along with Go Further and Comic Book Confidential. The film is centered around the magic mushroom – psilocybin – where Mann looks to determine whether there is any merit to the alarmist claims put forth by the government or related groups, or if there could conceivably be some benefit to popping a quarter…

Sauza Tequila (Blanco)

Sauza has been a major name in Tequila for a long period of tiem, but I believe that before today, I had never had a chance to check out the spirit until now. This tequila has been through two levels of distilling, ensuring for the smoothest possible experience. The Blanco is as clear as water, while the nose of the Blanco blends well the alcohol bite and familiar tequila body.…
