Of Montreal Show Review – Austin, TX, May 6th, 2013

Last night was Of Montreal’s tour stop in Austin,Texas. They played at popular venue, the Mohawk, to a mostly young and enthusiastic crowd clad with x’d hands and painted faces. Wild Moccasins from Houston,Texas opened the show with an energetic burst of indie dance music that fell somewhere between early Madonna and more modern acts like Beach House. The bass lines were steady and funky, creating a nice groove as…

Adventures in Time and Space Tour – Figure, House of Blues, Cleveland, Ohio – March 8th, 2013

As an update to the original flyers and show information, Eric Evasion replaced 2Rip. Signs explaining the change in lineup were present through the front of the House of Blues. Sean 2:16 immediately preceded Figure, and created a high-energy set that blended the bluntness of dubstep drops with popular culture (Pokemon clips) and samples from top-20 EDM efforts (Benny Benassi, Skrillex). The flow of the set kept the energy high,…

Rockapalooza 2012 Ohio Review (September 8th, 2012)

Rockapalooza 2012 was a tremendously interesting concert. The fairgrounds themselves were large and spacious, while the different stages were all placed in very close quarters. This means that there was a more cohesive flow to the concert, but that there was some serious sound pollution if individuals were not standing straight-on to the stage. There were a set of different scenes that were present here, culminating in a rock…

Rockstar Mayhem – Cleveland, Ohio – 7/25 Concert Review

I was excited the moment I received this assignment. It’s been quite a while since my last metal show, and there’s nothing better than an outdoor music festival.  I was lucky enough to catch Phish in Blossom about a month ago, so I came in with high hopes and expectations.  Let’s just say that I wasn’t disappointed.  Besides having a great time at Blossom listening to great music, there were…

Avicii – June 14th, 2012 Concert (Consol Energy Center / Pittsburgh, PA)

We were afraid that we were not going to be able to report on the Avicii show, as a ticket snafu threatened to shut out one of our reviewers. However, the staff at the CONSOL Energy Center bent over backwards to ensure that our needs were taken care of. We were able to get in and experience Avicii’s expansive live set from an absolutely stellar position. The design of the…

Winter Warmup – Friday, December 16th, 2011 – Show Review

Before the winter season truly started, Cumulus Entertainment had their Winter Warmup at the Agora Theater in Cleveland, Ohio. Tickets were $20 the night of show, and $15 if one was lucky enough to pick up a pre-sale. The show ended up being sold out, and the turnout there was intense. All together, the quality of performers, the overall sound and light package, and the good demeanor of all attending…

10/02/2010 Show – Kent, Ohio @ Checkers and Trophies (352 W. Elm Street)

It’s been a hell of a long time since I wrote up a show review, so I have to apologize if this is particularly garish. Anyways, Checkers and Trophies is a bar stuck in the middle of residential Kent, and is one of those locations that I have actually never attended before tonight. Learning earlier this week that there was a show at the bar (and a $2 cover at…

Holy Grail Concert Review (4/19, Peabody’s, Cleveland Ohio)

When one attends a folk-metal show it is generally expected that there will be the highly talented folk-metal headliner and prior to their set will be a collection of folk metal bands who have yet to find their niche but are trying with various folk instruments thrown into their music awkwardly.

One Hell of a night, compared to any other ordinary Sunday night filled with the routine of The Simpsons, American Dad and Family Guy.
