Major Minor’s Majestic March (Nintendo Wii)

If the characters on the front of Major Minor’s Majestic March look familiar in any way, that is due to the fact that the group that was behind the classic PaRappa the Rapper franchise (Rodney Greenblat and Masaya Matsuura) has joined up to make a music game for the Nintendo Wii. This Majesco title turns the Wii Remote as a music director’s baton, which is then used to keep all…

WWE Legends of Wrestlemania (Xbox 360)

For about the last twenty years or so, I have kept my ear to the ground regarding wrestling games. Naturally, I was excited when I first heard that THQ was going to release WWE’s Legends of Wrestlemania for the next gen consoles. The game differentiates itself from other wrestling-based offerings in terms of the ease of game play, the evolution in game graphics, and the timelessness of the characters that…

Six Flags Fun Park (Wii)

There have been few ways that I can recall that allows video game players to recreate the experience of an amusement park aside from simulations like Rollercoaster Tycoon. Six Flags Fun Park is the first game that I can recall that does just that, and benefits from the Wii’s unique control scheme to make a game that is truly lasting in magnitude.

Centennial Collection: To Catch A Thief / The Odd Couple (DVD)

Paramount has taken the rug out from a number of the shady fly by night video distributors and eBay markup-artists with their Centennial Collection. The collection itself captures a number of old films (Sunset Boulevard, Sabrina, Breakfast at Tiffany’s) that may have been originally placed on DVD with little or no extras, poor audio or video transfers, or had their limited DVD runs sell out and places a number of…

Resistance: Retribution (Sony PSP)

For those players that are familiar with Resistance, Resistance: Retribution starts off immediately after the events that concluded 2006’s Resistance: Fall Of Man. Where individuals may prefer the single-player mode, I found myself continually coming back to the multi-player mode. The mode allows up to 8 people the opportunity to frag, shoot, or otherwise disembowel their opponents. Other modes are completely innovative in regard to what they allow players to…

The Kite Runner (Blu-Ray)

While I understand that there are thousands of movies that came out before The Kite Runner that should make it onto Blu-Ray (even some that never made the jump from VHS to DVD), The Kite Runner is one of the few films that I would have cut in line. The store, regarding the different paths taken by two children (which ultimately converge in some of the most emotional cinematography I’ve…

Karlsson’s Gold (80 Proof)

Very few vodkas are created with potatoes nowadays, with a number of companies merely using grain alcohol for their bite. Karlsson’s Gold is one of those few companies that are still using potatoes to create their vodka, and it is this attention to tradition that makes Karlsson’s Gold shine brightest of all “normal” vodkas. What individuals will first glean from Karlsson’s Gold is a bouquet that is much less harsh…

Rune Factory: Frontier (Wii)

Rune Factory: Frontier surrounds players building a farm, and for those that are not abreast with all of the intrigue and issues regarding development, export rights, and the like, is related to the Harvest Moon series. Previous iterations of the Rune Factory series have been released on the Nintendo DS: Frontier marks the first transition over to the Wii. While I had very limited experience with the previous games in…

Say Hi – Oohs & Aahs (CD)

Six records into his career, Eric Elbogen (aka Say Hi) has just turned in his best album in an already respectably solid cannon. Oohs & Aahs is insanely catchy, from start to finish. Up until a couple of years ago, the band once known as Say Hi to Your Mom, used a home PC to record their lo-fi, indie pop albums.

Goosebumps: Return of the Mummy / The Scarecrow Walks At Midnight (DVD)

When I was still in elementary school, the Goosebumps books were originally released. The overwhelming popularity of the R.L. Stine titles made it a forgone conclusion that it would be transformed into a television show, and Nickelodeon brought it on board in the middle-to-late nineties. Fox recalls well the popularity of Goosebumps and has decided to release episode packs, two of which hit stores this March. Both “Return of the…

Absolut Mango (80 Proof)

It’s been a few months since NeuFutur had a chance to review any vodkas from the Absolut line, so we were happy to see a 1 liter bottle in the post about a week ago from Absolut’s PR firm. Needless to say, we set up a tasting and got some good impressions of Absolut’s latest offering. The initial bouqet is as close to actually cutting open a Mango as possible;…

Marble Saga Kororinpa (Wii)

This game is a sequel to Kororinpa: Marble Mania, and from the outset, players will be shocked at the steps that Hudson had taken to ensure that critics of the original title will have nothing to harp on.The game itself surrounds the collection of stump pieces, to assist Anthony the Ant in finding the “Golden Sunflower Seed”. The stump pieces also unlock further functionality in the game, giving players more…

New Brunswick, New Jersey, Goodbye: Bands, Dirty Basement and the Search for Self by Ronen Kauffman (Book)

Those looking to Ronen Kauffman’s book “New Brunswick, New Jersey, Goodbye,” hoping to find a definitive history of New Jersey’s storied hardcore and punk rock scene are better served looking elsewhere. There are mentions and anecdotes of a slew of bands from the mid-90’s scene like the Bouncing Souls, Lifetime, The Degenerics and Endeavor, but the main focus is one man’s discovery and ultimately his passion for the world of…

Twiztid – W.I.C.K.E.D. (CD)

I can’t say that I have been a fan of Twiztid since the beginning, because to be honest I did not know of them until about 2002 or so, when I first heard “Diemuthafuckadie”. Since then, however, I’ve kept up with their releases, be it as a duo (“Freek Show”, “Man’s Myth”, “Independents Day”) or as solo artists (“Phatso”, “Chainsmoker”). With a little bit of education under my belt then,…

Chris Cornell – Scream (CD)

Even diehard Chris Cornell fans have to admit the sound of the former Soundgarden front man backed by Timbaland’s electronic beats is a tad bit disconcerting. Now imagine an entire album of this Cornell hip hop hybrid.

Ricky Gervais: Out of England – The Stand-Up Special (DVD)

Five minutes into Ricky Gervais’ latest stand-up special he launches into a series of jokes about cancer. It’s at that point you realize that the heir to the late George Carlin’s brilliantly frank comedy has been found. Over the course of just over an hour, Gervais tackles everything from obesity (which is decidedly funny coming from the portly British comic) to the top 10 alternatives to risky gay sex (compliments…

South Park: The Complete Twelfth Season (DVD)

Twelve years into it, South Park still manages to be surprisingly fresh. Any argument against that statement is squelched with the third episode into this collection, “Major Boobage,” an homage to the classic stoner cartoon Heavy Metal thanks to cat urine. Sure the cartoons are still crudely drawn and the jokes even cruder, but let’s be honest you either think fourth graders saying “fuck” is funny or you don’t.
