Despite constantly being under the shadow of the cancellation axe, Chuck has somehow managed to survive a finicky audience and skittish TV execs thanks to smart writing that has attracted a small, but die hard following of fans and critics.

In the third season, just out on DVD, the show writers continue to dip deep into the well for creative plots and finally found a comfortable mix between comedy and action. The series features Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi) as an accidental spy, working days as a Geek Sqaud-esque computer technician and saving the world from bad guys in his spare time with the help of real agents John Casey (Adam Baldwin) and Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski). The third season picks up with Chuck and Sarah trying to figure out where their relationship stands after a season 2 cliff hanger that saw Sarah deciding not to leave the spy game to be with Chuck. This season also finds Chuck on the verge of actually becoming a real agent.

The first two seasons were overshadowed by threats of cancellation that saw the third season air only as a mid season replacement. But NBC seems to finally be fully behind the show once again, with a full season order stating this month. Let’s see how long it lasts.
