Earlier this year, TargetCancer, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising research funding and creating awareness for rare and lesser known cancers, announced its new download series, concerts and events, “The Right Track: Tunes To TargetCancer.” The launch of the download series in February 2010 featured exclusive tracks of new and rare music from Weezer, Ween, The Donnas, Cowboy Junkies, Dean & Britta, Buffalo Tom, Linda Thompson, Drug Rug and others.

Now, just in time for the holidays, new exclusive tracks from Sondre Lerche, Bleu, Kay Hanley, David Wax Museum, Sonnyboy, Will Dailey and more have been added to the ever-growing list of available pay-what-you-wish downloads ($.99 minimum). 100% of proceeds from all TargetCancer initiatives support rare cancer research. TargetCancer, launched in 2009 by Paul Poth, promotes the development of lifesaving treatment protocols for uncommon cancers. Through fundraising, outreach, and advocacy, TargetCancer supports cancer patients while also funding research initiatives at the forefront of cancer treatment – efforts that treat the individual as well as the disease. Since its inception in 2009, TargetCancer has raised over $85,000 for research funding.

“The Right Track: Tunes To TargetCancer,” a series of concerts, events, and music download opportunities represents the intersection of two passions: Paul Poth’s love of music, and his desire to make positive change in the world of cancer treatment.

When Paul, a dedicated husband, new father and Boston-based attorney with a passion for public service and music was diagnosed with hepatobiliary duct cancer, an extremely rare form of cancer, he quickly learned that there was no real insight into the disease or the treatments. Due to lack of funds and research, Paul seemingly had no choice but to go along with his doctors’ plans to patchwork together treatments for other forms of cancers.

Sadly, Paul lost his battle with cancer, but he knew treatment for rare cancers does not have to be this way. After all, these cancers are not all as uncommon as one may think, especially when they affect someone you know and love. After Paul’s passing, his wife, friends and family continued TargetCancer, in honor and celebration of Paul.

“TargetCancer is committed to funding and supporting research for innovative, cutting-edge treatments for cancers that are often ignored, but that can affect any one of us,” explained Kristen Palma, wife of Paul Poth and President of TargetCancer. “We are all touched by cancer in some way, and we are grateful to these artists for their contributions to this critical work.”
