A few months have passed since we last heard leaders of the Town Techno movement, League510, but don’t confuse the quiet with complacency. The group, comprised of TK, Monty, Mr. Knowitall, and Blacksmith, remains busy; League continues to put the final touches on their forthcoming debut, To The Beat, which will be released later this year on Clear Label Records, and, while anticipation the album’s arrival builds, the guys have a variety of new, non-album songs and videos to hold fans over, the latest being “Never Change.” For fans unfamiliar with the Town Techo sound, “Never Change” is a good place to start. The track combines the group’s partially sung chorus and flowing verses with a smattering of synths – layered to create a lush, spacey melody – atop the track’s strong backbone, provided by deep kicks, hand claps, and staggered hi-hats.
“This song came to be after TK started to hum the melody,” explains the group. “When we started writing the verses we wanted the song to tell the story of the humble artist, one not consumed by glitz and glamour.” And while the track’s concept has been attempted before, League510 brings a refreshing take on the subject matter. “But I’m just a humble man, pulling up in foreign rims/ Cost about a hundred friends just to get a hundred grins,” raps Monty. Mr. Knowitall produced the “electric slumpper,” as League510 refers to it, while the director of the video, Brian Storm of DreamChaser Films successfully captures the group in their day-to-day life, giving fans and viewers the chance to see the group doing them, combining performance shots alongside clips of the guys grabbing food, shopping, and skating. Fitting, as the guys rap, “I keep it 100%, all real.”
Emcees TK, Mont, Mr. Knowitall and DJ Blacksmith better known as League510 are pioneers of a sound that is all their own, Town Techno. With a sound that is out of this world, League510’s musical journey began in a galaxy far away from ours. After traveling the universe for years, they entered our galaxy and our planet shortly thereafter. With sights on our world, the quartet chose to land in the hills east of Oakland, CA. After hiding their ship deep in the hills they approached this new town with great curiosity and were immediately amazed by the vibrant culture that they found. Adopting the Bay Area scene as their new home, League510 wasted no time in beginning their new musical journey here in our world. Using advanced abilities, the four emcees quickly mastered the art of sound and gave birth to Town Techo, a form of music that would unite the people in heightened awareness; to show them to take action, to appreciate the fun in life, to believe in themselves and to believe in The League.
