Kojo “Easy” Damptey – The EP + Daylight Robbery Single

Illusion begins The EP, and it provides listeners with a brief look into the twists, turns, and stylistic variation that they will experience on the remainder of the title. The beauty of tracks like Illusion comes in their uniting of disparate genres of music; the track touches upon the past, the present, and the future over the course of three and a half minutes. While each of the tracks on The EP can be enjoyed on their own, I feel that the context that they possess when bundled provides listeners with a decidedly different story than would be present on a listen-through of a single track. The story that is told on The EP is ratcheted into high gear with Pre-Sequel to Africa.  Pre-Sequel to Africa is a transitory track in that it builds off of the framework originally crafted in Illusion and spins it into a decidedly different space. By the ending of the track, listeners will be taken away by the introspective content and the effecting arrangements. The brief break that is accorded listeners during Africa Listen allows Africa – the EP’s final effort – to have added emphasis. Africa Listen may peter out at the minute mark, but Kojo “Easy” Damptey is able to imprint the track onto the minds and hearts of listeners. Africa concludes the EP and acts in two distinct ways; it puts an emphatic exclamation point on the EP while providing listeners with some semblance of where Damptey may yet go on later efforts.  Africa is a worldly track that will present listeners with a unique allure; Damptey instills a commonality to this song that will resonate loudly to anyone that finishes up the disc.

Daylight Robbery (Featuring Canadian Winter) is the latest track by Damptey; the track seems to touch on a more radio-approachable chord. Daylight Robbery is stylistically distinct from the songs on The EP; the common element between these tracks is Damptey’s keen ear for detail and overall musical ability.
