OK Go is back with its first official video in two years – “The Writing’s On The Wall.” “The Writing’s On The Wall” is the first single from the band’s new album, Hungry Ghosts, which will be released on October 14 by Paracadute via BMG. While the song, which was heard in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, concerns a relationship that may be at its end, the dizzying video, packed with optical illusions that blur the line between reality and imagination, affirms that OK Go is still very much in love with the video-making process. (Their passion for making videos and other cool stuff is what led the White House to ask the band to craft a clip announcing the date of its very first Make Faire, which takes place tomorrow, June 18).

Directed by Aaron Duffy, OK Go’s Damian Kulash and Bob Partington, “The Writing’s On The Wall” is the first video shot with the yet-to-be-released Panasonic LUMIX GH4, which utilizes 4K video recording technology. Like all of OK Go’s videos, “The Writing’s On The Wall” is a single shot video. However, preparations for that single shot took two months and involved 61 run-throughs. The anamorphic illusions seen on screen are a tip of the hat to artists Felice Varini, Georges Rousse and Dan Tobin-Smith.

Yesterday MOCA in Los Angeles hosted the world premiere of “The Writing’s On The Wall.” Museum visitors were the first to see the new video and the celebration continued last night with an invitation-only event that included a screening of “The Writing’s On The Wall” and select other OK Go videos plus an exclusive Q&A with OK Go and Emma Reeves, Creative Director of MOCAtv, the digital extension of The Museum of Contemporary Art. Since the band took home the GRAMMY for Best Short Form Music Video in 2007 for “Here It Goes Again,” numerous museums, including The Guggenheim and Seattle’s EMP Museum, have screened OK Go’s groundbreaking videos.

Damian Kulash and video co-director Bob Partington will be fielding questions about the video process (and anything else fans wish to know about) on Reddit’s popular Ask Me Anything forum this Thursday, June 19, at 4:30pm ET at www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/.

OK Go will perform on the outdoor stage of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on July 22. The band’s new EP, Upside Out (http://smarturl.it/OKGOEP), is out today. The collection features four original songs from the Hungry Ghosts sessions, including “The Writing’s On The Wall.” OK Go teamed up once again with producer Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, MGMT, Tame Impala), recording most of Hungry Ghosts – the band’s first studio album in four years – at his upstate New York studio. Tony Hoffer (Beck, M83, Depeche Mode) produced the track “I Won’t Let You Down” in Los Angeles. Fans can pre-order Hungry Ghosts via OK Go’s Pledge Music campaign. Further details are available HERE.

Today the band announced the first leg of its fall tour, which will include a sold-out evening at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom (September 19). OK Go will kick off its summer tour on July 15. Fans will be treated to an all-new live show, packed with surprises and new interactive elements. See below for the initial itinerary; additional dates will be announced.

OK Go is at the forefront of an emerging class of independent creative entrepreneurs making art across numerous disciplines, hop scotching over the boundaries of content classifications in order to best realize the vision at hand. Or, in the words of Kulash: “We’re working to create a 21st century company that just makes cool shit.” Paracadute, founded by the band in 2010, has since released OK Go’s Of the Blue Colour of the Sky Extra Nice Edition and 180/365 as well as recordings by PYYRAMIDS, Lavender Diamond and Infinity Shred and the word game app Say The Same Thing. The band has netted numerous honors, including a GRAMMY, a CLIO, two WEBBY awards (including one for their collaboration with The Muppets and Sesame Street), a spot in a Guggenheim installation and a total of seven Lions from the 2012 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity – the advertising world’s most prestigious competition.
