This was one of the most novel approaches to doing a zine that I’ve ever heard: Killer and Justin both have a pile of material, and do their own version of the zine. So, Canadians get Justin’s copy and Americans get Killer’s copy. Pretty much all of the material in the first issue is written with the intention of being funny, but some pieces just seem to fall on their faces. For example, there is a piece that they copped from a decade-old copy of Wired about the brain’s physiology when playing Tetris, and a piece by Justin about how “The Idiots Are Taking Over†is the worst song ever. What seems to be the weakest part of the magazine is the second copping of material, this time from the 1990 Farmer’s Almanac. I tried to come into this magazine with a positive view, but there honestly are very few pieces of lasting interest to be found in the issue. The different uses of “fuck†really just seem to transcribe the various skits about the term penis (The Penis Song, anyone?), while “An Objective Look into what Makes Jews Jews†just makes no sense whatsoever. In fact, the only positive I can come with in this magazine is the discussion by Killer about eir’s race and the misconceptions about Asiatic people, which degenerates into how ey can say “Gay†or “Nigger†without ramifications. Very odd, very disjointed, and overall, not too terribly good.
