PotPi #3 / 40M / $2 or trade / :30 / That Kendra Girl, PO Box 72563, Davis CA 95617 / [email protected] /

I was waiting for the latest issue of PotPi seemingly since I received #2 in 2003, and finally got back into touch with Kendra a few months ago. Kendra talked about getting this zine down, and this just has a much different feel than the previous issue. In this issue, Kendra talks about times that eir had spent after departing from a vast majority of eir possessions and moving out to Portland. What really lends credence to the idea of a different voice is a section of one of Kendra’s old journals, in which eir says that “I spoke last night…and was frightened to find my voice sounded unfamiliar”. This is not the same person that wrote two years ago, and the pieces as a result of being done in different places at different times seem disjointed. Sections move fairly quickly, starting out with journal entries, moving to a more art-themed section, and even incorporating the poetry of a second writer (Matthew Eterginio). Some of the best pieces in this issue of PotPi come during Kendra’s use of eir wit, especially in the dialogue that eir significant other has with eir typewriter (which culminate in Noah’s proclamation that “actually I think I’m going to turn you off…and let Kendra turn you on later)”. I found myself not just reading on and off, but was much more compelled to finish the zine – Kendra has a way of writing that makes all readers want to know what happens to eir.
