Pulp Bizarro #1 / #1 / :30 / 36M / http://www.pulpbizarro.com /

It looks, from a cursory glance at Pulp Bizarro’s web site, that there has been little updated since April of 2007. This is really sad, as Pulp Bizarro has some of the strongest stories and bits of prose that I’ve seen in a zine for quite a few years. In fact, it is the zine’s first piece – “Vaccine” – that really gets things going. The main character of “Vaccine”, Vince, gradually becomes addicted to what ey things is a smallpox vaccine. In a swerve, what comes forth in the story is that the drug is really a mind control device, and while the antagonist of the story is created with a slightly heavy hand (ey tells Vince to call eir “Centralized Media”, one should not let one minor stumbling block be a reason to be turned off from this story. While “Letter To A Crack-Whore” is not the same letter that floated around Craigslist circles last year, E.J. Blask provides a tremendous amount of humor and vitriol against a crack addict that accosted eir near a shop. The words Blask writes here are as sharp as the knife that the crack-head originally brandished. Blask’s review of “The Tingler” will provide individuals with tremendous into why they should watch the film, while “Box Truck” provides another bit of surrealist fiction, in which an exotic dancer loses a tire, only to have Santa Claus stop to give eir a life. After this, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunner fight. Pulp Bizarro is a solid ‘zine, and I sincerely hope that E.J. Blask comes through with a new issue sooner rather than later.
