SiX – Between the Warning and the War / 2007 1605 / 13 Tracks / http://www.sixmusic.com /

SiX has been around for quite a few years. In fact, they have been around since 2001. The band has not released an album since 2004, so one can guess that they have a few tracks to stick on this, their latest album. “The Day I Died” is the first track on the disc, and it features Tony Campos from Static-X. The energy brought forth by the band here is equally as intense as anything that Static-X has came up with in the past, and it has a current sound that outstrips the releases of Static-X.

However, merely having Campos on one track is not the only reason why the band succeeds during “Between The Warning and the War”. Rather, the tight sound that the band whips up during “A Guide To Living Alone” is purely their own, and would be fitting on any rock station that tends towards the heavier side of things. Where the band creates their own sound on “A Guide To Living Alone”, the band takes a further step to superstardom with their “The Beautiful Things”. “The Beautiful Things” puts enough in the way of harmony into the band’s diverse sound that even individuals inculcated with lighter rock styles will find something that they can appreciate.

With interest levels high, SiX decide to bump it up to high gear and come forth with another guest star, this time Mike Clark of Suicidal Tendencies, with “Forgiveness”. The shrill guitars present during this track act as a higher element to the lower elements of the guitar and drums, providing a diversity to the band’s sound that is equivalent to the intricacies put forth to a disc by a progressive rock / metal type of band. There is no reason why a band like SiX should not be burning up the charts at this moment: they are helping sell out shows with bands like Stone Sour, Lacuna Coil, and Shadows Fall fairly regularly. Without any perceptible weakness to be had on “Between the Warning and the War”, SiX is an act that is destined for the big time. It is largely up to the fans whether they will be able to achieve that goal. Here’s to hoping that “Warning”, or the single that will follow “Warning”, will be the big break that SiX so rightfully deserves.
