The Burnt Library Volume 2, Issue #3 (March/April, 2008) / Free / 4L / No Contact
I picked this up at Slacker in Pittsburgh, and this seems to be a Pittsburgh version of a scene magazine, short and sweet, and kept up to date through the small amount of material that needs to be present here. However short this zine may be, there is a decent amount of information present. After the cover (a picture of some doorways), “Yammering†has Jordan Decay discuss the perfect level of dirt that needs to be present at a bar. Specifically, “There’s a difference between a place being dirty, and being filthy.†After this piece, a few reviews – Manufactura and My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult – immediately follow. The reviews continue with a live show review of the Baby Dee, Patricia Wake, and Phat Man Dee show that occurred on March 1st at the Frick Fine Arts center. The strength  of Decay’s writing here is the level of description that ey puts into each sentence of the review; individuals may not have ever heard of acts like those listed here (except for My Life), but individuals can get a good idea of what the bands would ultimately sound like. This issue ends with a short poem, “Nightflamesâ€, and a listing of the shows that are set to take place in the next three months. I don’t typically like scene-specific magazines, but Jordan Decay uses the limited space here to make a great zine. I know I’m not often in Pittsburgh, but I’ll have to see if there are any new issues of this zine at Slacker the next time I come down.
