Toby Keith – 35 Biggest Hits / 2008 Universal / 35 Tracks / http://www.tobykeith.com / http://www.ilovethatsong.com /

As one may be able to glean from the title of this collection, “35 Biggest Hits” marks country’s own Toby Keith’s biggest contributions to the field of country music, be it past, present, or current. This means that there is 1993’s “Should’ve Been A Cowboy”, 2002’s “Courtesty of the Red, White, and Blue”, and 2006’s “A Little Too Late”. Individuals that have all these tracks on another album or set of albums will still find some reason to purchase “35 Biggest Hits”, considering that this is the only legitimate place that individuals can pick up “She’s A Hottie”.

This CD collection will give individuals a good sense of what tracks will be on Ketih’s latest tour, which will take place through the summer and also feature Montgomery Gentry. For individuals that are not the biggest fans of Toby Keith but like a track (or five/ten) on “35 Biggest Hits”, a listing of what album each tfrack comes from is also present. This allows individuals to tune in to the specific periods and styles of country that Toby Ketih was putting forth during eir 15-year career. The sheer number of tracks on this greatest hits collection means that every one of Keith’s releases is given its moment in the spotlight, rather than missing out or weakly featuring a release, which is par for the course for a number of other greatest hits albums.

Finally, “35 Biggest Hits” will operate as a stoking of the fires of Toby Keith fans the world over; there have been rumors about that a new studio album is not too far off the horizon at this point, perhaps even being released in the later months of 2008. Out of all of the songs that Keith has ever charted with, only 8 did not make it onto this 2-CD compilation. This is likely due to the fact that there just was not enough in the way of the space on the album, and not because some of these tracks (“Crash Here Tonight”, “High Maintenance Woman”, “Love Me If You Can”, and “Get My Drink On” are notable exclusions) are weak in any way. So, if you consider yourself to be a fan of Toby Keith, make it a point to pick up this greatest hits collection. There is just so much here for individuals to chew on – for introductions to Keith, for fans well accustomed to Keith’s music, this is comprehensive.
