“Never Gonna Love No One Again” (MP3)
Singer/songwriter, Pez Wilson, evokes feelings of a bygone era when the martinis were dry, the jokes were drier and jazz was more than just a basketball team in Utah. Wielding a voice somewhere between a croon and a petition, with a trumpet held at the ready, Pez is set to bring his soulful brand of modern pop/jazz hybrid to audiences worldwide with his newest EP, which will be available at live shows, online and on Pez’s website on a “pay what you want” basis.
Pez’s experience as a theatrical and film composer and his love of jazz is a clever foundation for a unique pop album. Accompanied by the trio of Andy Langham on piano, Edwin Livingston on bass and Jimmy Paxson on drums, whose combined experience includes backing Stevie Nicks, Willie Nelson, Ray Price and Queen Latifa, Pez will appeal to anyone who’s a fan of modern pop, but longs for the days when blues, the Brill Building, and jazz ruled the airwaves.Â
The creation of the EP spanned the country. Pez and the band laid out the foundation of the album at Sounden Studios in Southern California through a vintage board onto 2†tape. Pez then headed to the Coupe Studios in Boulder, Colorado to record some additional vocals. With an unmixed album ready to go, Pez returned to his former home of New Orleans to mix and master. The finished product is, as Pez says, a sound that works. It’s organic and simple while alluding to some of the complexity of jazz. We’ll drink to that.
