There are a number of games for all current-gen consoles that claim to provide fitness to those that play them. NewU Fitness First Yoga and Pilates immediately comes forth with a sort of focus that none of these other titles have. Furthermore, while the title does not completely avoid traditional types of cardio-based exercises, the variety in exercises that are provided here ensure that players will be able to break their plateaus, if they have them.

The great thing about NewU’s Fitness First and Pilates is that players of all skill levels will be able to choose the exercises they want; there is no real learners’ curve either in terms of getting to the exercises generally or doing each exercise. The title itself ensures that players are doing the correct poses and situating themselves properly through the inclusion of data taken from both the Wii MotionPlus and the Wii Balance Board. Further conformity to the actual desired workout posture is assisted through the inclusion of video of the exercises themselves.

The different exercises (about 130 in total) will ensure that players can keep things interesting throughout the next year or so. I would like to see Deep Silver create some additions to this line to work on both cardio and weight-training exercises. This is because Fitness First Yoga and Pilates does not try to gussy up the workout process or distract players from trying to give it their all. For anyone that has a Nintendo Wii and wishes to get fit, make sure to pick up NewU Fitness First Yoga and Pilates whenever you can.
