Carl Thornton

Today, we are speaking with Brooklyn’s Carl Thornton. Can you give us a little background information about yourself? How did you get into music?

I have been performing professionally for ten years. His talents have taken him to Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Holland, Istanbul, Dubai, and Portugal. In 2012 he was contracted to tour and sing in China where he performed in Shanghai, Gangzhou, Fuzhou, and Hong Kong at the Starlight Dance Clubs.  I started singing in a glee club in elementary school, and while on stage I had an epiphany that being on stage is where I belonged and that singing is was what I wanted to do with my life.

You have just released a new EP, Destined; what was the writing/creative and recording process for the album like?

The inspiration for the music came from my life experiences.   A beat and rythm usually comes into my head first and then I start composing.  I’ve been fortunate enough to have met an incredible producer with whom I have such a cool, symbiotic working relationship, which was beneficial for the creative process for this EP.

What’s your favorite track off of Destined (and why?)

Such a difficult choice to make!  I love them all, but if I have to choose I would say “I Remember.”  It is the track in which I bare my soul and am very candid about the emotional turmoil and heartache I felt about the demise of my 7 year relationship.

How has New York City generally helped and hindered your career?

New York City is such a vibrant, electrifying and fast paced place to live.  There are an abundance of opportunities here for performers, i.e. singers, actors, dancers, musicians.  That being said, it is an extremely competitive place, but I choose to let the competitiveness of the city bring out the best in me.

What does your recording set up look like (what do you use to record, what are your favorite tools)?

Of course a microphone and headset is necessary!  LOL  I like to have a music stand so that I can place the sheet with the lyrics on it, just in case I fail to recall some of the words.  Bottled water is also essential for me.

Which artists are the greatest influences for you and your music? Is there a dream lineup of performers that you would like to perform with if given the chance?

Pharrell Williams, Calvin Harris, Usher, NeYo, Avicii, Zedd, Maroon 5, Kendrick Lamar.  Sure I would love to perform with Jesse J, Usher, Calvin Harris, Avicii!

Which sort of social media website have you had the best successes with? What about these online services are different from the traditional face to face meeting and performances that musicians utilize?

Twitter and Soundcloud.  The online services gives you the capability of reaching a larger and broader based audience.

What should listeners expect from your music in the future? How can interested NeuFutur readers locate samples of your music? More club bangers and a journey into the evolution of me as an artist and performer.
