On Champion Arise, Rock Dawuni is able to infuse a modern set of sensibilities to the tried and true reggae sound. A robust guitar and bouncy bass line mesh with a bit of electronic trappings here, as Rocky’s vocals shine brightly over the track. Hints of gospel can be picked up here; the increasing prominence of these backing vocals add a distinctly different style to Champion Arise’s second half. Able to fit nicely onto pop and reggae rotation, Dawuni’s latest is strong enough to stay on listeners’ minds throughout the summer.
We last covered Rocky’s music back in 2019; check out our review of “Beats of Zion” and “Wickedest Sound” .
