When assessing the most popular areas of gaming throughout the years, FPS titles have generally always been at the top of the rankings. Be it while listening to music or devouring salty snacks, gamers everywhere relish the chance to showcase their shooting skills and come out on top in the epic battles that first-person shooters specialize in.
Also, thanks to their first-person perspective, FPS games are both intense and exhilarating. Alongside playing battle-filled masterpieces on mobile like Brawlhalla and tucking into new online casino gems filled with tanks like Battle Bucks 10K Ways on a laptop, millions of console gamers, in particular, are inundated with FPS games to tackle. From the adrenaline-pumping action they offer, to the glorious graphics they possess, we’ve certainly been treated to some superb FPS games in 2025 so far. Below, we salute some of them.
Borderlands 4
Released in September, Borderlands 4 is a brilliant game. Much like the other instalments from the series, it contains strong doses of fight-based action. However, where this latest title beats the rest is through its notably improved movement, an even better open-world package, and upgraded crafting options that bring even more entertainment to proceedings. A great game to tackle, Borderlands 4 is exceptional.
Battlefield 6
One of the most recent options on the list, there was plenty of hype surrounding the release of Battlefield 6. So far, it’s been entirely justified, too. The latest instalment from this iconic series is easily the best one yet, as players immerse themselves in a wide range of destructive environments and reign supreme in battles using a plethora of deadly weapons. As one of the most highly anticipated FPS games of the year, Battlefield 6 most definitely doesn’t disappoint.
Doom: The Dark Ages
If you grew up playing the variety of classic Doom games out there, then you simply have to get your hands on a copy of Doom: The Dark Ages. Set in a medieval-inspired world and filled with endless amounts of epic action to get stuck into for hours on end, the game was released in May and has received several glowing reviews from the experts. Overall, Doom: The Dark Ages delivers.
Ferocious
Ever wondered how you’d fare when stranded on a remote island filled with nasties who want to eat you? Well, that’s basically what’s on offer in Ferocious. This survival shooter is packed full of man-eating dinosaurs, with puzzles to solve and structures to build, all of which will boost your chances of staying alive. While not every dinosaur-themed game we’ve been exposed to over the years has necessarily been worth diving into, Ferocious most definitely is.

While Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was actually released at the end of 2024, it makes the list as not everyone has sampled it in 2025 yet. Sure, CoD games have always been huge, but new releases from other categories have distracted some players. If you’re also yet to session Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, then you really should. From its usual fast-paced gameplay to its new omni-movement system that is unlike anything you would’ve seen before, it’s a superb game.
Killing Floor 3
Yet another FPS masterpiece you should set some time and money aside for, Killing Floor 3 is a much-loved release gamers everywhere are raving about. In this zombie-filled favorite, you have to survive in the most terrifying of circumstances. With zombie-slaying on offer throughout in a seriously scary gaming experience, you’ll probably want to play Killing Floor 3 with the lights on, though.
