It’s always a special time when Steven Spielberg releases a new film. Disclosure Day is him looking up at the stars in a way that feels timeless while addressing today’s cinematic and technological approaches. The central narrative kicks off when an anomalous radio sequence triggers a chaotic global scramble, pulling Blunt’s linguist and O’Connor’s data analyst into a global sort of conflict. I found the film enthralling, especially concerning the main story beat of the differences existing in how language is established. While the movie is focused on the stars, Spielberg has crafted a message that is resonant during this era of high conflict between different cultures. Universal has released the home video version of this flick, and has done so in a fashion that the release ends up being the decisive way to experience Disclosure Day.
The 4K Ultra HD transfer of Disclosure Day is crisp and replicates colors immaculately. This release comes with a very sharp Blu-Ray version for those that don’t have the proper set up for the 4K Ultra edition. Rounding out the release are a pair of featurettes that delve into the relationship between Spielberg and the film’s leads (Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor). I was a bit surprised that the main documentary here reached 50 minutes. A second inclusion, focused on John Williams’ inimitable approach to creating movie scores, provides further depth to this release.
