New Belgium Gruit

Gruit is an eclectic effort that New Belgium has produced for their Lips of Faith series; the beer pours with a golden color and along-lasting, thick white head. The beer has a peppery and lemony flavor that provides imbibers with a different set of tastes with each subsequent sip. Gruit concludes with a slight hop bite and hints of malt. While the IBU level (3) is incredibly low, the inclusion…

MONEY’S Release Short Video for Goodnight London

Following their performance at Field Day last weekend, MONEY have just released a short film for ‘Goodnight London’, a fictional piece of art-house cinema, directed by Jem Goulding. Inspired by the confused identity talked about in singer Jamie Lee’s lyrics, the film is a metaphor on the masks we are often forced to wear, embodied in an abstract love story.

Villainettes Feature

Australia’s Villainettes have all spent time in previous bands, providing them with ample opportunity to hone their sound – what results is nothing less than amazing. Allah-Las met while working at Amoeba Music, a key destination for music lovers in Los Angeles. While this experience helped shape their sensibility, their sound was forged in an underground basement where they came together as a band. They began gigging in Los Angeles in 2008, refining their live performance, and finally released their first 7” single ‘Catamaran / Long Journey’ in 2011.

Tan A Summer to Remember CD Review

Heat Wave is a tremendously hopeful pop-punk song that is replete with sizzling guitars and emotive lyrics. Tan is carefree music in the vein of Metro Station or Sum 41. The production of tracks on A Summer to Remember is tremendously lush, making it easy for these tracks to make it onto pop rotation. If I Could I Would is an effort firmly ensconced in the pop tradition; Tan’s vocals…

Nettie Rose People I Know CD Review

Ride Ride Ride is a straight-forward retelling of early country. Rose’s vocals are gritty with a tinge of sweetness; taken alongside the guitars and percussion, they make for a track that will stick with listeners long after the track ceases.

Matchstickmen Acoustic Grooves to Soothe the Soul EP Review

Few artists are able to do the acoustic-only release to the same effect as Nirvana and other acts took to MTV’s Unplugged twenty years ago. England’s Matchstickmen are able to imbue their own unique style and a radio-friendly demeanor into each track on their latest release. Jealous Times hangs perfectly with the Counting Crows and Blues Traveler, while Dark Blues is darkly emotional and simultaneously touches upon the seventies and…
