We were afraid that we were not going to be able to report on the Avicii show, as a ticket snafu threatened to shut out one of our reviewers. However, the staff at the CONSOL Energy Center bent over backwards to ensure that our needs were taken care of. We were able to get in and experience Avicii’s expansive live set from an absolutely stellar position. The design of the…

Brooks’ Mach 14 are some of the lightest shoes that we have reviewed. They are able to become an extension of one’s foot to allow for a better grip and a faster transition into a full-out run. While one will be shocked at the overall weight of the shoe, I feel that purchasers will be able to cut time off of their personal records. The print on the shoe…

The trippy and strung-out atmospheric indie music that begins The Barrens’ self-titled LP is much denser than listeners would think. The band has tied together a number of layers that yield different things each time that a listener begins the title. Far from being a single-oriented band, The Barrens make this title much more of a cogent thought than an exercise in episodes. Bottom of a Well has a…
The high amount of energy that begins Vox e Tenebris will immediately draw listeners in, while the band’s alt-rock sound touches upon some of the best acts of the last twenty years. The titular track has a walking bass style that matches the vocals perfectly. The dark/light sound of this interaction opens up nicely to a brash and bold guitar/drum dynamic. The fluid nature of Radio Fallout makes each…

Providence, RI’s VERSE announced their reformation earlier this year, along with subsequent new album release. Titled, Bitter Clarity, Uncommon Grace, this new album is musically dynamic and lyrically poignant, focusing on a storyline that is “…completely human. Ringing is a track that immediately ties together the inorganic with the human. The electronic sequencing works at a level alongside more traditional piano lines. What unites these two unique elements is Chou’s vocals. This three-minute introduction to Chou will work perfectly on pop, EDM, or indie rock radio stations. I Know A Place has a similar sun-baked feel to Soak Up the Sun. Shame is a very heartfelt track…

Yeasayer have premiered a new track from their forthcoming album “Fragrant World.” The first proper single on the album, “Longevity” exposes a new found edge in Yeasayer. Lyrically, they hold up a social mirror in a way that made punk so effective, while bathing the lurching and heaving rhythm in a mechanized and otherworldly soul. The melody emerges understated and clean to form a undaunted vision for new music. …
