Iller Than Theirs – S/T

Iller Than Theirs – S/T / 2007 Embedded / 11 Tracks / http://www.embeddedmusic.net / “Razorbumps” is the first track on Iller Than Theirs’ self titled track, and it brings an intense style of rapping to a more classic backing beat. Where it would make sense that there would be tension between these two styles, the combination of the flow with the backing beat makes for a strong first effort by…

Emperor – In the Nightside Eclipse [ADB]

This is an 8 song release by these 4 guys from Europe on Century Black, which is a division of Century Media. Sounds of battle start off this cd, which leads into a atypical death metal song- screaming, 300 mph drum beats, and not very noticeable lead guitars. Usually, the lead guitar makes the death metal band, but I guess the harmonies thrown in are the main focus of the…

Metal Mind Productions Re-Releases Three Albums by Believer

In the entire history of the thrash metal genre, there was never a band as unique as Believer. While their music showcased thrash influences from the rawest sort, delivering fast and violent sounds, the message they incorporated into their songs was the exact opposite of the typical thrash metal attitude. Through their music Believer preached the word of God – each lyric is a testimony of faith and commitment to…

Parsley Flakes – We Need Friends

Parsley Flakes – We Need Friends / 2007 Self / 8 Tracks / http://www.myspace.com/parsleyflakes / I’ve seen the Parsley Flakes live about five times, and I was a little afraid that they would not be able to capture their live magic on this studio album. However, after the first few seconds of “Ladylove”, I was reassured. The style of music that the Parsley Flakes play is an electronic-cum-punk rock blend…

Elliot Smith – Kill Rock Stars [ADB]

The album has 12 songs and it is on Kill Rock Stars. It was released in 1995. All but one of these songs are played with an acoustic, with little bass or drums. The songs are 1960’s sounding with political messages. I like the messages he sings about, but his playing of the songs is almost lullaby-like. This is a perfect indicator of what the former grungeheads are doing in…

Mark Olson – The Salvation Blues

Mark Olson – The Salvation Blues / 2007 Hacktone / 11 Tracks / http://www.myspace.com/markolsonmusic / http://www.hacktone.com / “The Salvation Blues” is a weirdly-packaged album. When I first opened up the package from Hacktone, I thought they had screwed up and sent me a book instead of the latest Mark Olson CD. A quick check later, and I was on my way to listening to what is one of the more…

Zigmat – S/T

Zigmat – S/T / 2007 Self / 10 Tracks / http://www.zigmat.com / Zigmat plays a brand of electronic-infused indie rock that will get individuals up and on the dance floor as soon as the first bars of “Light of the Moon” start up. The band blends together the rigid structure of the synthesizer perfectly with the much more airy, indefinite sounds of the vocals. What results is a track that…

E-Chuta – Someone Else’s Fist [ADB]

This taper is typical almost metal. Its a form of hard rock, but it lacks the ambition to be metal. This band is broken up now, so there is one less band in Lancaster. Too band we couldnt have had one of the shitty bands broke up. These guys werte ok. This tape is on Short Roy Records…. I have no clue where this labels page is at… any info…

Dropkick Murphys – Boys on the Beach [ADB]

6 songs on cyclone in 1997.Really good Rancid knockoff band with the same audible bass, vocal delivery and lyric style. This is less pop punk then rancid is , and as a result they sound better. Much better and more full of energy then rancid. They are old school mixed with oi with working class politics. 4 piece band that sounds polished and nsync. Great guitar riffs mix with scorching…
