Yellowbirds is the moniker for the latest musical exploits of Sam Cohen–songwriter, guitarist and vocalist in the psychedelic collective Apollo Sunshine. Next Tuesday, October 12, Yellowbirds will release its debut track “The Rest Of My Life.” The song is the first of three to be made available in the coming months, hinting at what’s to come as Cohen puts the finishing touches on The Color, a full-length studio recording due…
Beginning November 10th in Los Angeles, CA, Healy will join The Killers’ front man Brandon Flowers for a two-week tour of the United States. “WRECKORDER proves to be Healy’s most thoughtful work since Travis’ The Invisible Band” raves The Onion, while Filter Magazine praises Healy’s “effortless craftsmanship and wide range … that work to perfection.” Alternative Press goes on to say that WRECKORDER “gives Healy the chance to stretch his…
It’s crunchy, dreamy, riffy, soaring–hope you love it as much as we do. We’d love for you to please post and share “Maybe It’s Best”, an (in our opinion) stellar track off Philly-based Sparta Philharmonic’s excellent “(Trans)migratory Birds”, which we’d also love to send to you for review. Hit me up, OK? ABOUT THE RECORD: You know when you were a kid and someone told you: “You can do anything…
Last week, RCRDLBL gave you your first sampling of White Sea with the gorgeously haunting “Mountaineer,” a track they described as “racked with vocal crescendos and homecoming drums-a breathy beauty.” Now, Urban Outfitters, which selectively curates its new musical discoveries, has handpicked White Sea and is offering the five-song debut EP, This Frontier, for exclusive free download all week. The solo project of M83’s Morgan Kibby, White Sea’s innagural EP…
There are few game franchises that are able to continually reinvent themselves as are Guitar Hero. This is not done at the expense of previous game play, but each addition to the Guitar Hero line feels as if there just is something new and fresh bubbling just under the surface. When Activision sent over a copy of review, we immediately set the guitar up and began to see what had…
As of October 1, “Supermagique” had climbed to #3 on iTunes Latin Alternative chart, #17 on the World Chart and #52 on the general Latin Chart. Spanish language media giant Univision.com capitalized on the momentum with this superlative review http://musica.univision.com/noticias/article/2010-10-01/pacifika-ritmos-sin-fronteras which received over 1400 Facebook “likes” on the day it posted. “Supermagique” also moved up to #3 on the CMJ World Chart this week and continues to make steady progress…
Polish female-fronted goth metallers UNSUN, featuring ex-Vader guitarist Maurycy “Mauser” Stefanowicz, will release their sophomore album, Clinic For Dolls, on October 12 via Armoury Records. The follow up to their 2008 The End Of Life debut was recorded at Hertz Studio (Behemoth, Vader etc.) in Bialystok (vocal tracks were recorded at Studio X in Olsztyn). UNSUN features Mauser, vocalist Annelyse “Aya” Stefanowicz’s, bassist Heinrich (Decapitated, Rootwater, Masachist, Vesania) and drummer…
Family Guy seems to have a problem with attempting to push the line of what can be accepted and what is not. Where shows like South Park gain the additional benefit of being on a straight cable format (rather than on network TV), Family Guy is on Fox. This additional censoring has ensured that Family Guy has to play it a little safe, save for situations such as this one.…
Very rarely do bands come forth with such a vibrant energy and intensity that defines the essence of whom they are and what they set out to accomplish. With tracks like “The Weekend War” and “One Step at a Time”, The Matt Burke Band do just that. “The Weekend War” has a very tropical feel to it that makes the dreary days of autumn melt away. Despite the track’s tropical-shirt…
“Revival Rock” is exactly that. The cuts from this album are such that listeners will feel that they are in a different time, but with a small twist. SweetKiss Momma is able to have the bluesy style of a CCR or Guess Who, but has enough talent to make current listeners fall in love with the band. By crossing over between two distinct sets of listeners, “Revival Rock” can speak…
Jackie’s initial track on “Someone Like You” is something truly special. It is a track that exists at the nexus of a number of distinct musical style. It could conceivably chart on R&B, country, or pop charts, and that is based more on the talent of Jackie’s voice than anything else. Don’t get me wrong – the instrumentation is great, but each nuance of Jackie’s vocal, each rise and fall,…
Metropolis recording artists COMBICHRIST have been tapped as main support for RAMMSTEIN’s first and only show on U.S. soil in ten years at NYC’s legendary Madison Square Garden. The show will take place on Saturday, December 11, 2011. Rammstein and Combichrist are no strangers to each other. Both bands toured Europe together for four months in 2010, strengthening a tie that ultimately brought them together for what will undoubtedly be…
I know I must be getting old. I was not even aware that Gormiti: Lords of Nature was based off a children’s television franchise. For those like me, this does not mean that Gormiti: Lords of Nature is a title that can be slept on. Rather, it represents a black sheep in terms of contenders for the best NDS game of the year. Also released for the Wii, Gormiti represents…
Over the last decade, Charlie Hall has become both a renowned worship leader and a voice for the lost, the broken and the unlovely. Last week Hall returned with the triumphant new recording The Rising, which debuted at No. 14 on the Top Contemporary Christian Overall chart. Available on CD and digitally, The Rising was produced by bandmate Kendall Combes and as a whole was a collaborative effort with many…
Kris is no stranger to being on the road, as he spent his summer headlining shows around the country. He has also opened for big names such as Keith Urban, The Barenaked Ladies, The Fray, Daughtry and Maroon 5. Kris is currently promoting his self-titled debut album, Kris Allen (19 Recordings/ Jive Records) released in November 2009. His first single “Live Like We’re Dying” has sold over 1.5 million to…
Despite much of the cast leaving the hospital, there are quite a few good things that viewers can see about this season of Scrubs. J.D. (Zach Braff) is still present, albeit in a reduced role as mentor to the new group of doctors at Sacred Heart, Lucy, Cole, and Drew. The dynamics that each of have in regards to each other, the more tenured members of the staff, and even…
Just being able to have a new version of one of metal’s best known and strongest albums in a shiny and fresh CD is enough of a reason for individuals to retire their cassette tapes or vinyl. However, Capitol has added an entirely new disc of rare tracks for listeners to sink their teeth into. These tracks were pulled from Queensrcyhe’s November 1990 performance at the Hammersmith Odeon in London,…
Today, we are proud to share the first music video from Montreal’s Suuns. Suuns channel the elements of Earth, Water, and Fire to create their new video for the darkly seductive “Up Past The Nursery.” Worn smooth like a worry stone “Up Past The Nursery” is a beguiling song that sweetly kisses your eardrums while speaking of the ominous and uncontrollable. Amidst explosive bursts of fire and light, the video…
