Tight Pants #10

While I have been a fan of the other Tight Pants zine (being The World Would Be A Better Place If Everyone Wore Tight Pants), I hadn’t gotten a chance to go and read Tight Pants until I saw a copy for sale at Boxcar Books. After picking it up, it was definitely worth my buck. While all of the fonts that Maddy uses are just windows system-type of fonts,…

Totally Rejected, The Hybrid, The Good Life – December 6th, 2003 @ Greencastle Indiana (JMcQ)

Well, another show was put together for Meherry Hall. Taking place during a Saturday night in which I found myself pretty busy, I was able to sneak in a small time before the show was to start. The news of the show was pretty well disseminated, with ample amounts of flyers being printed out and J.J. (The Hybrid) and Zach (The Good Life) coming on my radio show the Thursday…

Few male R&B solo singers that debuted in the early 90’s, in Joe’s case fifteen years ago, can attest to the success that seven-time Grammy Award nominated (Best Male R&B Vocal Performance — “Let’s Stay Home Tonight,” Best R&B Album — “Better Days,” Best R&B Performance by a Duo or a Group – “More Than a Woman” w/Angie Stone, Best Pop Collaboration w/Vocals – “Thank God I Found You” w/98…

Thoughtworm #10

A diary-like zine, with a style of writing that is interesting to say the least. Information is given without much in the way of rhetorical flourishes, but there just seems to be a feeling of detachment from the events of Sean s life, a feeling which never truly goes away. This is not to say that it is hard to get into the zine, but that there is a nagging…

Billy Joel – The Stranger Legacy Edition (CD)

Billy Joel’s 1977 album, “The Stranger”, has a number of hits that fans of Joel’s would declare as some of Joel’s defining tracks. This means that “Just The Way You Are”, “She’s Always A Woman”, and “Movin’ Out” all reached the top 20, while “Only The Good Die Young” hit #24. A slight bit over thirty years have passed, and Sony Legacy have recreated some of the original magic that…

GBA, The Hybrid, The Vroloks – November 21st, 2003 @ Greencastle Indiana (JMcQ)

After a great amount of putzing around on my part, Gabe and Ben from The Vroloks were able to get together a show with another student organization. Learning about it a few days before it was supposed to happen, we ended up plastering it all over my show. The interesting thing about my radio show the night before the concert was the fast that at one point, we had 14…

This is not a dream : december

Yet another zine by NeuFutur favorite Vera, but this time eir s creativity comes out in a very short and bizarre style of comic. A sort-of comic snapshot of Vera s life, each page details a different activity, whether it be wondering whether the dumpstered bagels ey s is eating are vegan, listening to Godspeed You Black Emperor!, or having a stomachache after reading Nieztche. Vera s style reminds us…

Think Again Vol. II: Issue 1

Without actually being able to see any of the issues in the previous volume of Think Again, one can only judge how the magazine is from the six-page newsletter that is this issue. This means painfully few articles dictate whether or not one will wish to return for this zine. The crew that creates Think Again is thankfully skilled enough in their writing to provide readers with a short and…

The End of the World – French Exit (CD)

After what can only be called an homage to Bright Eyes’ “Lifted”, The End of the World come forth with a rounded out bit of indie rock that has all the swirling guitars and earthy sounds that a Sunny Day Real Estate or a Sebadoh were known. The emotive vocals skew more towards early nineties Goo Goo Dolls than Omaha, but the act thrives on this style. The emotional intensity…
