Bigelf – Cheat The Gallows (CD)

Bigelf has broken big to the point that Linda Perry (formerly of 4 Non Blondes) has allowed them to be a focal point of eir Custard Records. Bigelf has been a major force in the United States prog-rock genre for well over a decade, and the added notoriety given “Cheat The Gallows” by this bump up in labels will undoubtedly bring many more fans to Bigelf’s side. The disc itself…

The Good Life and II Deep – November 1st, 2003 Review @ Greencastle Indiana (JMcQ)

Bringing me back to my earliest days in shows, the concert that occurred at Megan’s, a Greencastle High Schooler, brought back a lot of ambivalent memories to my own high school punk experience. This time, there was no screaming at “the fag in the Manson shirt”, but getting out there was a more interesting story than any I had encountered up to that point. Earlier that day, I was in…

Think Again #1

With the most simplistic page design, Think Again goes into the most shallow detailing about whatever topic they decide to cover. Thus, maybe the layout works in their favor. This go around, Adam and the Think Again-ers do a mini-biography on Henry Kissinger, break down the dollar bill, and very briefly, cover some Awful Link of the Day material, in Websites Your Mom Won t Like . While each page…

Unstable, 22-Left, The Good Life, and II Deep – September @ Greencastle Indiana Review (JMcQ)

Remembering what a fiasco the last time that I reviewed a Greencastle band concert, I looked at this flyer wondering whether or not I should actually go with trusty notebook in hand. Just dismissing the actions of some of the bands and the individuals as an isolated happening, I trekked over to the skate park’s pavilion and expected pretty much the same style of music and the same talent level…

Morel’s “The Death of the Paperboy” due out 11/4.

There’s a moment when everything changes. A split second from which point everything that follows is forever different from what came just an instant before. Sometimes it’s a phone call Sometimes it’s a handshake Sometimes it’s a look in your best friends eyes. You never expect it. You never forget the moment When for the first time you realize that you can’t go back, Ever again. – “The Death Of…

Things You Never Said #1

The zinester that does this work is simply great. He is an adorable boy, but enough of that. The magazine is a salmon pink, and the magazine is not focused at all. This is a good thing, as even if a piece does not have its intended effect on a reader, the next piece isn t related at all, and the person has a better chance to like it. Strong…

Devil May Cry 4 (PC)

Chances are that most individuals have already played some form of Devil Mya Cry, either on consoles or on their PCs. It seems that all too often, sequels to successful games like Devil May Cry are unable to innovate, and as such, are not able to reach the successes achieved by previous iterations of the game. Fortunately for Capcom, Devil May Cry 4 is absolute fire. The quality of the…

Shinedown

Shinedown is an act that has been together for a solid seven years, first getting into the realm of common knowledge with their 2003 effort “Leave A Whisper”. In the years that have followed since the release of that album, they released 2005’s “Us and Them” and 2007’s “The Sound of Madness”, the band has really been able to go forth and gain legions of adherents. If individuals want to…

Against Me! / Peelander-Z – August @ The High Five (JMcQ)

I went directly to the Against Me! Shows site, and found out that they would be hitting up Columbus Ohio a few short days from that night. Calling up my buddy Shayne, we end up going up a few hours early just to make it in time for the opening band. Not having a concrete idea of where the venue was at (all we knew was that it was on…
