The Lord Weird Slough Feg, whose name is derived from a character in ancient Irish mythology, originates from Central Pennsylvania. The band relocated to San Francisco, California in 1990 in hopes of resurrecting the ailing ‘true metal’ scene in the United States. The band quickly gained a reputation as, ‘The band San Francisco loved to hate’ by taking a stand against the trends and incorporating stage savagery with strong visual…
Countime – Broken Blinded Betrayed / 2006 No Joke / 7 Tracks / http://www.nojokereordsla / “From The Heavens Above†is the first track on “Broken Blinded Betrayed†and it shows Countime as an act that loves their classic, “tough guy†hardcore. The band produces fast, heavy, and intense hardcore music that has more than its fair share of metal influence. Note that during “From the Heavens Above†that Countime do…

This is a tape that was self published and self produced. The guitar lines are above average but they still sound typical of most Rock Bands. The guitarist can put out some decent lines, but he does not do this often. The vocals are whiney, and the drums are pretty bland. The bass work is decent, but it is nothing to write home about. The drummer sounds like he has no…

The Good Night Fight – Serpentine / 2007 Brave New Records / 5 Tracks / http://www.myspace.com/thegoodnightfight / http://www.bravenewworldrecords.com / The Good Night Fight start off their “Serpentine†EPO with a track in “Conqueror Worm†that is nothing out of the ordinary. What the band does during this track is throw in screaming, metal-like vocals with a set of instruments that would work well in a Fu Manchu or a CKY…
I acquired the top 75 tracks on United Kingdom radio for 10/28. I realize it’s a week or so old, but here are a listing of the top tracks I found that either will be or are big in the United States or will be secreted away for only UK audiences. Really boring alt Canadian rock by this 5 piece band in 1994. While the music is actually pretty decent, the whole sound is dated, but Pax Arcana aren’t to blame- they released this when all alt rock was popular. “Pears” is a rocking song that has a definite Pink Floyd sound. “Walk” goes from whiny indy rock to a hard rock sound. “Mesmerized” goes from a good song to crape.…
Pilgrimage is the third sacred voyage of drone mantra purity from Om! Helmed by the master rhythm section of Chris Hakius (drums) and Al Cisneros (bass) – both formerly of doom/drone gods Sleep – Pilgrimage contains four brand new songs featuring the group’s unique use of riff, cadence and chant. Lyrical themes address the processes of mind, psychic reality, astral and causal planes of being, and the nature of the…
Jeanne D’Arc / 2007 Level-5 / PSP / http://www.us.playstation.com/Jeannedarc/ / http://www.playstation.com / Individuals may know the story of Joan of Arc, the French girl that heard voices and was supposedly (or not) burned at the stake. Well, this game, produced by Level 5 (who you may remember as the creative minds behind Dark Cloud) follows a little bit of the story, but adds some different types of monsters and events…

While each of the members are still in their teens, The Frantic has played Warped Tour and shared stages with Bad Brains, Bad Religion, Riverboat Gamblers, Pink Spiders, New Found Glory and Youth Brigade to name a few. One of their out-of-control performances caught the eye of famed multi-platinum producer Mudrock (Avenged Sevenfold, Riverboat Gamblers, Alice Cooper) who was so impressed he flew them out to L.A. and produced Audio…
Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow / 2007 Sony / PSP / http://www.us.playstation.com/LogansShadow/ / http://www.playstation.com / For individuals that loved the storyline behind “Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror’, “Logan’s Shadow’ is the next game in the series. The game’s story line essentially runs as so: Gabe Logan has to get into a well guarded’s ship’s cargo hold to get some technology before it falls into the wrong hands. Pieces start falling together and…

1995 on Super Mono Records, with 9 songs, and its another horrible piece of Canadian Rock. The album sounds like ba recorded and distorted 60s pop down to the cheesy vocals and organ. This is also a 5 piece band. The distorted guitar riffs are really annoying. However, “Who Cares” is an groovy song with cool vocals and no distortion, but good audible bass.”Stories about stupid people” makes me want…

First To Leave – Forging A Future / 2007 Wednesday Records / 12 Tracks / http://www.firsttoleave.org / http://www.wednesdayrecords.com / Man, I had no idea that First To Leave was going to sound like how they end up sounding at the beginning of “Forging A Futureâ€. The cover of this album is very nondescript when it comes to giving clues about the band, so needless I was shocked when I heard…
