This is a disc I was given by a friend who is going out with a member of the band itself, and while there are some definitely interesting pieces to this CD, I would have to say that this is really derivative of other nu-metal bands including Linkin Park and Korn. I was told that there was a lot of shifting in the band, so I will have to see…

A short time ago, Darla Farmer joined forces with Magic Hat Brewing Company and Vancar.tv to put on a full-blown theatrical music show. Initially only viewable to the drunken crowd in attendance, Vancar.tv released the live HD footage of the show in all its glory. Now the band is releasing the recording of the Magic Hat Brewing Company show, appropriately titled “Live @ Mercy Lounge.†Premiered and featured on AOL’s…

Emok is a band that is hard to understand, as their music is so diverse and free of genre labels that words do not come easy. Velvet Underground, MC5 and The Stooges all come out as integral forces in creating Emok’s general sound, but a greater sense of instrumentation comes through at every section of “Shove Your Head…â€. This instrumentation is most certainly a result of the more rich fabric…

I am genuinely thrilled to announce that* CLUES* will be touring the UK this October just a few short months after the release of their wondrous self-titled debut record, an album full of secrets, smiles, snarls and sing-a-longs. Co-founders Alden Penner and Brendan Reed quietly nurtured this project in Montreal after the demise of their respective bands, *Unicorns* and *Les Angles Morts*. As a member of the wonderful but sadly…
There will be a lot of individuals that do not pick up “So This Is Me†because Emo is in the title. However, the music that opens up the intro to the disc is in no way connected to the emo style. “Just Believe†reminds me of a blend between Enrique Iglesias and Marc Antony; this is pop music done with a very light hint of Latin style to it.…
I’m not exactly sure if this will be categorized as an Eminem track or not, but Eminem is the major force behind this track. This track also features 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, and features Cashis. The track does not distinguish itself in any way early. The backing beat is understated, with the flow from each rapper not doing much to imprint the track in the heads of anyone listening in.…
It’s a new joint from Oakland’s newest band of brothers, as current hitmaker D-Lo drops the track “Coppers” featuring his brother, Sleepy D. While D-Lo sticks to his recipe of insanely deep bass, handclaps, and that (now) recognizable high-pitched bark, he strays from the in-your-face-ness of “No Hoe,” utilizing synth rumbles to construct a melodic bass line. After being raised in deep Oakland and serving around a year in prison…
Deep Elm Records is pleased to announce that MOVING MOUNTAINS will be on tour with THURSDAY in September and SAY ANYTHING in October (see dates below). MOVING MOUNTAINS released their stunning debut “Pneuma” (www.deepelm.com/471) to critical acclaim on Deep Elm Records last year, and they have been gaining steam steadily ever since. Recommended to fans of The Appleseed Cast, Explosions In The Sky, Sigur Ros, Brand New and Cursive, their…
Noted in XXL Magazine as a “Player to Watch” and in The Source Magazine “Unsigned Hype” section, Indie Rap Artist Slykat is set to re-release his hit single, “Salud” on September 18th. Born in Miami, the now Vegas-based artist hit #41 on the Billboard Charts with “Salud”, without a distribution deal. Slykat broke a record on dsnmusic.com for over 1 million downloads, the most of any unsigned artist in the…
2001.4 song demo. Very fast tempoed punk with a vocalist such as Anthony Kiedas from the Red Hot Chili Peppers or the lead vocalist from the Stranglers. The guitarist is amazingly skillful in his trade as the guitar solos just blow me away. The songs of Emergence are in the hurried style of so many of the great punk bands of the 1970’s. The recording on this album is fantastic,…
Had you caught Psychic Ills on their West Coast tour with Indian Jewelry earlier this summer, you’d swear they were trying to skip clear off the celestial plane. Favoring longer pieces and employing their fair share of filter banks and enigmatic tribal percussive instruments, the band has firmly shaken the psych-rock comparisons to arrive at a sound all their own. This Fall they will be taking to the road again…
Modern rock renegades Hollywood Undead and Orange County rockers Atreyu, two of today’s most captivating live bands boasting a powerful mix of rock, metal and rap, have announced a co-headlining national club tour. The tour kicks off on October 16th in Lubbock, Texas through November 21st at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles. The Live Nation produced tour will feature a 28 date trek across North America with stops at…
Coming out with an indie-rock album is a hard thing to do nowadays. While most bands out there go for the emo-rock route, picking the dead flesh off the body of Fugazi-era emo, The Emergency choose another path, instead taking cues from The Cars and Weezer. Not really datable or immediately able to be put into a genre, The Emergency’s music is a smart collection of poppy, jangly guitars and…

El Presidente plays a weird style of rock music that does not have an immediate way to date it. There is a shrill type of vocals that would be equally as well placed in an act like The Darkness, while the simplistic style of the guitar and drums on a track like “Without You†reminds individuals of the Christian rock of the late nineties. In a way, El Presidente sounds…
