After two successful tours and album releases in 2008, the “ambassadors of Nashville indie-pop” (Nashville Scene), known collectively as Ten Out Of Tenn, will head West on the third leg of their U.S. tour sponsored by American Songwriter. The tour will kick off March 12 in Louisiana and take and extended stop in Austin for SXSW on March 18-21.
Since its inception in 2005, the members of Ten out of Tenn have grown collectively as well as individually. This past year saw the rise of the group as they released their second compilation, Ten out of Tenn: Volume 2 and the Ten out of Tenn Christmas compilation and toured to sold out dates across the U.S.
It was a stand out year for Erin McCarley who released her Universal Republic debut Love Save The Empty to critical acclaim including a national television appearance on “The Late Show With David Letterman” and an upcoming performance on “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” and milestone as the the highest number of free downloads on iTunes and a feature in the Wall Street Journal titled “The Marketing of Erin McCarley”.
Following the release of his EP, Jeremy Lister is getting ready to record a new record for Warner Bros. Member and producer of the TOT Christmas compilation, KS Rhoads teamed with Myspace Records to promote the release of Dark Hotel.
National spots in film and television have helped propel the careers of Matthew Perryman Jones (One Tree Hill, The Hills), Trent Dabbs (film “Nothing But the Truth”) and Katie Herzig (“One Tree Hill, Lipstick Jungle, Ghost Whisperer, and “Sex & The City” soundtrack). Butterfly Boucher, Griffin House, Tyler James and Andy Davis are currently touring and preparing to record new records.
A unique aspect of the Ten out of Tenn tour is the dynamic of the entire cast of musicians showcasing the depth, range and diversity that Paste Magazine likens to “the beginning of an indie supergroup,” has drawn rave reviews from critics:
“Any performer on that stage could mount a credible bid for mega-stardom… This delegation of indie talent bodes extremely well for the future of Nashville’s music scene.” – Jason Killingsworth, Paste Magazine
“It’s a special thing to witness an artist on the edge of stardom, seeing it times ten is all the more electrifying…” – Popmatters.com
“The new Ten Out of Tenn Volume 2 compilation offers convincing proof that there’s way more coming out of Tennessee than just country-like for example, slick alt rock and pretty modern electropop.” – Time Out New York
ABOUT TOT: Ten Out Of Tenn debuted three years ago to shine a light on a few of the many Nashville artists who haven’t waited around for the world to hear about them. It was the brainchild of recording artist Trent Dabbs and his wife Kristen. On their way to Nashville from Jackson, Miss., it occurred to them that their favorite musicians were closer than they’d realized. “We were thinking about how much music we like that happens to be our friends’,” says Dabbs. “There’s a community of people here with a lot of talent.” Helmed by Kristen, the idea quickly turned into a compilation disc, and the compilation into a tour.
The inaugural tour was partnered by Myspace.com and Paste Magazine who praised: “The average person’s knowledge of Music City consists of televised Tim McGraw concerts and Bluebird Cafe T-shirts. But there’s a mostly overlooked community of musicians behind Nashville’s glitz. Ten out of Tenn is a group of independent, Nashville-based musicians who have a lot more to offer than rhinestones and country-pop.”
In 2008, Ten out of Tenn returned with a seconding offering in July and then with a holiday compilation of traditional and original holiday tunes.
