The War On Drugs Tour With The Hold Steady

At the end of March The War On Drugs will finally embark on their first full nationwide U.S. tour since the release of their debut album -Wagonwheel Blues- last June. Why the long wait do you ask? The folks in the UK and mainland Europe have been gobbling up The War On Drugs’ curious new take on a American highway rock with such fury and fervent that The War On Drugs have had to oblige. All their time in Europe has honed The War On Drugs into a viciously tight trio. Even better The War On Drugs have been invited to open for one of the most exciting live bands in America, The Hold Steady. Last year, Craig Finn listed -Wagonwheel Blues- in his top five albums of 2008 on Pitchfork and said “they made an amazing record that I was obsessed with for most of the year”.

“Their stunning new album Wagonwheel Blues is full of gentle, moody folk tunes torn apart by jagged shards of noisy guitars”- ROLLING STONE

“The War On Drugs made a totally serious album, shimmering and sprawling- it’s as inspiring as it is exhausting and dense”- FADER

“Granduciel’s plainspoken voice and his band’s dreamily textured, ambient sound are alluringly compatible, lush and dreamy with a familiar rock ‘n’ roll bite.” – PASTE MAGAZINE

“The War On Drugs make excellent road-trip music… The album urges you along the interstate, but never burdens you with the stigma of roots music or reached-for authenticity”- 7.8 PITCHFORK MEDIA
