Steve Aoki, the visionary behind Dim Mak Records, knows how to spot talent. His label has brought a mind-blowing array of party-starting music to the masses, from Bloc Party to The Gossip, Klaxons, MSTRKRFT and The Bloody Beetroots. Starting out doing remixes under the name “Weird Science” with production partner Blake Miller, they remixed artists from Snoop Dogg, Peaches to Bloc Party. Under his own name, Aoki has remixed Michael Jackson, NASA (w/ Kanye West, Lykke Li & Santigold), The Killers, Lenny Kravitz, Tiga, and others while having done collaborations and tracks with The Bloody Beetroots, Armand Van Helden, Laidback Luke, Boys Noize and the Faint, Junkie XL and most notably The Bloody Beetroots who’s track “Warp 1.9” hit #2 on MTV Europe.
On September 15, Steve Aoki will release his own single, “I’m in The House,†featuring the mysterious man in the mask, [[zuper blahq]]]. The track is a fun, jumpy track that shouts out artists and friends of Dim Mak: Crookers, Boys Noize, MSTRKRFT, The Bloody Beetroots, LMFAO, and Pase Rock.
Who is [[zuper blahq]]]?
We can’t tell, but maybe if you listen closely enough you can guess!
The “I’m in the House†single package features a diverse collection of remixes by The Count aka Hervé who lays down a heavy dub step remix, and Gigi Barocco driving the Italian fidget sound. A second package will be released later this year featuring remixes by LMFAO, Sharam of Deep Dish, world renowned pianist Eric Lewis and many more.
Steve Aoki will release his full-length debut album in spring 2010.
In the meantime, catch him at one of his many DJ residencies around the globe, or follow his antics by tuning in to www.steveaoki.com. Oh, and did we mention that he’s got his own clothing line to boot?
