Lay Low, the Icelandic country singer/songwriter, has brought her “lovely, twangy tales of heartbreak and lonely nights” (Paste Magazine) to the big screen.

The Icelandic star (born Lovisa Elisabet Sigrunardottir) has written the score for ‘King’s Road,’ a comedy-drama about a prodigal son who returns to an Icelandic “trailer trash” family after three years abroad.

The film, which debuted in Iceland last month, is the second feature written and directed by Valdis Oskarsdottir, a BAFTA award winner for her editing of ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.’ The all-star Icelandic cast includes Daniel Brühl, who played a prominent role in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Inglourious Basterds;’ Brühl can be seen in the video for “Bye Bye Troubles,” Lay Low’s rockabilly-style ballad from the film.

Meanwhile, Lay Low’s new album, ‘Farewell, Good Night’s Sleep’ (Loo Records), is out now and getting great notices (NPR Weekend Edition, The Nation, Glamour, and many others). She begins a U.S. tour Friday, April 30 in Boston.

“…A uniquely fresh sound…(she) appears to be well on her way to accomplishing a deserved following.” – The Nation
