SHILPA RAY ANNOUNCES NATIONAL FALL TOUR DATES

Shilpa Ray will embark upon her first national US tour of 2014 this fall, playing dates alongside fellow Brooklyn duo She Keeps Bees beginning late August and running through the end of September.  Ray, with her forceful stage presence and dynamic vocals, will showcase new material for fans while drawing from her latest EP, It’s All Self Felatio (released on Nick Cave’s own label), and the critically acclaimed full-length Teenage and Torture, described by Village Voice as “a stellar collection of blowsy, unwholesome songs: writhing, scathing, and endlessly worthwhile.” Upcoming tour dates below.

Growing up in central New Jersey, Ray picked up both the harmonium and piano at age 6, at the insistence of parents who wanted her to learn classical Indian music. Settling in New York after graduating from college, Ray, who cites The Doors, The Velvet Underground, blues acts and The Stooges as influences, frequented open mic nights at the East Village’s legendary Sidewalk Cafe. In the years that have followed Ray has carved a place for herself among New York’s cadre of characters as one if its most provocative performers, winning over the likes of Larry Ratso Sloman and Nick Cave among others, for the grit and zeal she brings to her songwriting and stagecraft.
