Dennis Bagwell – Paid in Full (CD)

Dennis Bagwell has the onerous honor of garnering one of the lowest ratings ever given by NeuFutur. However, it’s been about 6 months since I reviewed eir last album, “A Random Litter of Thought”. “All Our Friends are Enemies” has a weak version of President Bush’s set of vocals doing some stream of consciousness rant as looped samples of vocals are played throughout the background. The rhymes are all obvious…

Asobi Seksu Set To Tour

While Asobi Seksu’s creative core explored music at an early age (lead vocalist/keyboardist Yuki Chikudate got standing ovations at child prodigy recitals when she was just 8; guitarist/vocalist James Hanna bounced between sludgy hardcore and Mogwai-schooled post-rock in his teens), their potential ‘career’ wasn’t put into perspective until a stint at the Manhattan School of Music. And by put into perspective, we mean finding out what they didn’t want to…

Bagheera – Twelves (CD)

Much like the Just A Fire disc released by Asian Man this last year, “Twelves” is a completely upending of the roots of the record label and a complete step towards a sound for Asian Man that can’t be described as “ska”. Bagheera really just reminds me of a more professional version of The Devil is Electric/Operation Cliff Clavin, albeit with a slightly more experimental edge. By far, the crux…

The Bad Plus – Suspicious Activity?

For those individuals who have been inculcated into more pedestrian and popular music, the long-drawn out and intricate compositions that The Bad Plus use on “Suspicious Activity?” may be off-putting, to say the least. The strongest thing that one can say about The Bad Plus is that they are one of the most intense bands currently out on the market. Forget the thrash metal acts, or those bands that use…

Noilly Prat (36 Proof)

Individuals that have not had a chance to take on the Noilly Prat on their own should look into it; it is an interesting type of spirit that really has nothing in the way of comparison. This is likely due to the different blend of herbs and spices that are entered into the unique process that Noilly Prat has guarded, and is the main reason why it is seen as…

Backslap – Find Yourself (CD)

First off, what the bloody hell is wrong with the lead singers voice? I thought, hey, there’s a female lead singer for this act, cool. But, I looked at the booklet and there’s this guy named Arthur who apparently does the vocals. The end result of the time recording this disc is an album that sounds as if the person had no clue how to digitally record – seriously, it…

Blue Dragon Plus (DS)

Blue Dragon, the prequel to Blue Dragon Plus, was a game that really did not receive the acclaim that it deserves. The game itself should have been huge, being designed by a firm that was created by someone intimately familiar with the Final Fantasy games. The storyline for Blue Dragon Plus builds off of the actions that took place in the first game, and by the time players have finished…
