Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled (Nintendo DS)

For those individuals that have not had much an idea about the history behind Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled, it has been in development since at least 2006. The game had a serious possibility of being left out to dry, as it was originally developed for the Game Boy Advance. Luckily, both Studio Archcraft (the title’s developer) and Graffiti Entertainment (the publisher) decided to change up gears and design…

Orzel (80 Proof)

We would have gotten this spirit reviewed quicker, but we lost the bottle for a significant part of time. Seriously though, we have to put an apology to the firm that sent out the bottle at the beginning of this review. For those that do not know about Orzel, this Polish vodka is apparently “Filtered Over Quartz”. How this is beneficial to the spirit over charcoal, I may never know,…

Carrie Cheron – One More Autumn (CD)

“One More Autumn” starts out with Cheron using a vocal inflection that sounds a lot like Joni Mitchell’s “Big Yellow Taxi” than anything that has came out in the last thirty years. There isn’t much in the way of extra instrumentation to “Goodnight Amelia” besides a guitar and a bass. Of course, the focal point of this track has to be Cheron’s voice, which is something that is never challenged…

Confessions of a Shopaholic (Blu-Ray)

There are few films out that actually improve upon their source material, but Confessions of a Shopaholic may just be one of those few. Originally a novel by Sophie Kinsella, the Touchstone title of the same name immediately will draw attention due to the casting choices that are present. Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers) takes up the mantle of Rebecca Bloomwood, the movie’s main character whom is beholden to eir shopping…

Cheeseburger – Gang’s All Here (CD)

A certain amount old, seventies-influenced rock starts off “Gang’s All Here”; replete with the guitar fuzz present on all those old albums, the vocals really cut through the noise and provide for rock in the old style. This is not diminished during “Girl’s Room”; if anything, the guitars assume the fuzz present on many a punk song while the vocals take on a Danzig/Jim Morrison type of feel. The drums…

Eastbound & Down – The Complete First Season (DVD)

Land of the Lost may have tanked in theaters, but the movies co-star Danny McBride more than makes up for it with the soon-to-be released DVD debut of the HBO series East Bound & Down. With stellar cameos by Will Farrell and Adam McKay (Anchor man, Talladega Nights), Jody Hill (Observe and Report), David Gordon Green (Super Bad) directing, the humor hues closely to the Judd Apatow variety and the…

Che Chapter 127 – Profit Prophet (CD)

Political Punk a la Rage Against The Machine funneled through a pop machine. This band is a mix of RATM with pop-punk (The Donnas), and when I say the Donnas, I mean a strong female presence at the vocals. The politics of the band are truly worn on their sleeve, showcasing them as direct action, anarchists, and as people that don’t force their listeners to believe in a specific dogma.…

Cheb I Sabbah – La Kahena (CD)

Before 2005, I had never reviewed much in the way of non-punk world music. This year seems to be the year of world music, as both Raza and Cheb i Sabbah cutting albums. This time, we have a more restrained sound, allowing for more traditional song structures even as more-Eastern styles dominate. “La Kahena” is a light album, with the majority of instruments found on the disc creating a tinny…
